    fractured scaphoid aches?

So I fractured my scaphoid but it went untreated for ten weeks (during which I played full contact rugby weekly...) and now it's in a short arm cast and 3 weeks into the healing period...
I'm getting aches in that wrist every now and then. They're like short bursts and then it's fine. has this happened to anyone? is it normal?
PS wednesday's x-ray day so i'll know if I need surgery then
    thanks

even with immediate cast, scaphoid is a problem

poor blood supply. putting it in a cast for 3 weeks 10 weeks after injury is a joke. hopefully you will not have pain, but you probably will. unfortunately even the surgery is far from 100%. if the bone doesnt heal even with a screw and bone graft, you can have other things done later that fill the space if you have pain.

I broke that one in half last spring. I had it casted three days later. Sorry to say, but it was 2 months in a cast, and 2 more before I was cleared to get out of the splint. Sumbitch still gets a twinge or ache every once in a while. Just be patient because it will be very weak when you get out of the splint.

with the prolonged time in between injury and getting casted it might take a while before you notice a change. The poor blood supply to the scaphoid is a problem and it might be water under the bridge at this point. Stay in the cast and hope for the best. Your doc will likely talk with you about bone stimulator and or surgical options in the near future.

That bone sucks to break. I had a hairline fracture in mine and it stills hurts on longs MTB rides years later. A friend of mine broke his in college and ended up having to get a chunk of bone taken from his hip and put in his wrist 10 years later. Take it easy on that one...
