Of course this happens the day before I arrive...

I got my windows broken all the time in SF when I parked on the street. Never got anything stolen, the just bust the windows trying to unlock the doors to no avail. Always right at my deductible, so I never used the insurance.

Then I decided to bite the bullet and pay for a garage spot. Expensive? Yes, but it eventually evens out the hassle of getting a window fixed on a moments notice.

Good idea for insurance...with your homeowners or rental policy, you can get an umbrella policy that will increase your protection from $1 million or more for a couple hundred bucks a year. For me, its worth the peace of mind if shit hits the fan.

I've got the bare minimum of gear on me at the moment, but it sounds like you may be taken care of...

    GLASS DEDUCTABLE IS LOWER

I know the deductable for windshields is usually lower than your comprehensive deductable...not sure about rear windows. Check your insurance policy or call your agent. I didn't know this until the glass replacement company told me, and I called my agent and guess what - only $100 glass deductable vs my $500 comp deductable.

Huge bummer. Sorry to hear it. Does this sort of thing happen frequently in Seattle? It's never happened to me or any of my friends who park in the street in Manhattan.

It happened to me in Manhattan. Broke the window, stole my CD's, stole the radio (code-protected, it was useless to them) and destroyed the dash trying to get the radio out. Upper East Side, too.

Big thanks to Buster & Powstash - two very big hearted people.
    Thanks all for the feedback.

Quality Auto Glass gets a big thanks for fitting me in today on short notice. Overall cost ended up being just over $500 for the window- which was much better than what other vendors bid.

Note on Novus- I had previous glass replaced at Novus and they did a crap job (and were trying to charge a lot more +$300 than the others). The owner at QAG showed me all the defects from Novus- good to know.

Bummer. I have a friend in the glass business; If you want me to fetch a quote, drop a line. I recently got a new windshield for only $140.

Want me to mail you my skins? I'm serious? They're just sitting in my closet in Wellington. I might use them in September, but not until then.....they're cut to a pair of 195 CMH Exploders. Been used like twice.

This is a state-to-state thing. Here in Colorado, where a majority of windows are broken, there's no extra allowances for windshields; they fall under your regular deductible. However, (I believe) in NY where my parents are, they have full windshield coverage, so they pay nothing or next to nothing.
