Minimal edge left, should I care?

I almost always buy (lightly) used skis out of economic necessity.

Just scored some used Stormrider XLs (medium cheap) that were described as having "plenty of side and base edge left", yes, plenty is a subjective word but that was an exaggeration. The edges are almost flush with the sidewalls. I can either plane the sidewalls back and tune (very) lightly/infrequently or get money back and eat shipping. Any thoughts?

I thought planing back the sidewalls was a normal part of the edge sharpening routine. As long as the edges still extend far into the ski, then there is indeed "plenty of edge left".

    what davep said

how tall and wide are the actual edges themselves?
can you put a set of calipers or a fine ruler on there?

about 1.5 mm tall (that seems fine to me)

about 1mm in width, that is what concerns me. The narrow waist measures 1mm less than what it's supposed to be.

Plane the sidewall. I'm not sure what Stormriders start with but 1 mm will leave you a couple tunes if you are not putting an aggro side bevel on them.

Stocklis tend to have a thin edge to begin with. You'll be fine though. Just don't give them to a shop for a machine edge tune, that can take off too much material. Stick to hand filing the side edge, with a guide of course.
