Well this is no Tyrone training thread .....but I thought I would at least get out DR thread off page 4.

Had a good week.....rode every day, 60 some miles total, with somewhere around 5k climbing (and two hour ultimate games in the mix). After a super busy moving weekend, this at least is starting to kick me into gear.

uuh..duude...I hear you...have grown up and lived in various parts of Pennsylvania for 24 year I go through the same thought process when I go back to visit.

    back on topic...

after last Saturday's Sierra Century...I have been on the bike 0 times all week!! wohoo!! Sunday was recovery day....monday & tuesday was just 5 miles a pop of trail running, wednesday was indoor soccer, thursday i traveled for work, and last night I snuck in an indoor soccer game too. Today...outdoor soccer..and tomorrow probably some mountain biking.

Actually feels good to be off the road bike for a week as I was starting to get burnt. i'll get back on the wagon on Monday

Finally scored myself a ticket. So I'm in. My wife is riding it too and has been trianing pretty hard while I've been slacking or should we call it cross training? Climbing and mtn biking should get me in DR shape right?

    2 week countdown.....

I think I found my ticket, so that is good. Training is still average, but I am feeling ok. Still no available weekends, but have been getting tons of commuting (100 miles so far this week, probably 7k climbing in their....and think I am going to climb Rose tonight). So.....bring it on.

I haven't done a significant road ride really since the Sierra Century which was nearly a month ago. But been doing TONS of trail running, soccer, and singlespeed mountain biking though...so hopefully that has kept up my base fitness level somewhat.

My road cycling has been limited to short 2 hour rides after work but with lots of intense hill riding...i'm pretty confident i'm OK for the DR. But I want to work on my climbing speed and power for the Iowa Hill Time Trial that is coming up in a couple months as part of the Auburn Century.....

I'm pretty confident you are OK too TS.

I did get my ticket today....so I am definately riding on the 14th. My longest ride has been an hour and half.....HA. So....we will see.
---I have been playing lots of ultimate though, so I actually am psyched on my cross training....hope it helps prevent any weird knee stuff.

Hey! What do you call that ride you took me and Rose on last Tuesday? Hahaha, compared to what you've been riding during the weekend, that was nothing for you I'm sure. I still want to know how many miles that ride was......

Today I rode a 31 mile really hilly ride, does that count? Then I went for a wimpy 3 mile run. Tomorrow I'll run 2 hours (about 11 miles for me).

Oh! Tomorrow I'm upgrading my bike at BP in Folsom!!! I'm super excited. Aerobars, clip pedals and shoes, and one of those sippy water bottles for the aerobars. Possibly some ass-mounted (ha) water bottle cages, too. What else? A bike computer? I suppose I should get one of those as well. Although I need new running shoes....so....where should one draw the line? I'm not made of $$$.

ha...just saw this post. Did you come back this week for a repeat of the hills?

OK..so one week to the Death Ride. I found out today, I definitely peaked about a month too early ( ). We did a 65 mile, 7000 vert day today and it totally kicked my ass. The last 15 miles were brutal for me and I was hating life. When I did the Sierra Century last month I felt fine and strong and that was gnarlier that what we did today. Granted there were lots of rest stops and all that crap in the organized century...but still.

Today's ride included Iowa Hill. Iowa Hill proper steadily climbs for about 20 miles...but it has a section at the very bottom that climbs an average of 13% for 1.75 miles and has a few 23% sections. My front tire wanted to lift up a few times on these switchbacks and fuck me if I didn't want to throw up at the top...can't wait to time trial up this sucker in 2 months during the Auburn Century

Anyway, travelling for the entire next week and the next time i'll be on my bike (except some shuttling DH action tomorrow! wohoo!) will be during the Death Ride. i'll be wearing the old TGR/PMGEAR/MAGGOT jersey most likely...so give a shout if you see it!

You guys are completely insano-nuts. I would probably die after mile four (assuming I made it that far) on that ride.

    Props.

check Craig's List for San Fran, Sacto, & Reno. There should be lots on there this week as people begin to bail.

    good job man.

It's not that bad, you'll be fine. It's just up, rest stop, down, rest stop, back up, rest stop, back down, rest stop, up, rest stop, down, rest stop, back up, rest stop, back down, LUNCH, across to car - bail or keep going - then UP, rest stop, up, rest stop (last pass!), back down.

coupla ups, coupla downs, coupla rest stops. peace of cake.

Woo Hoo.....just got back from a week of vacation. Maybe 2 spins this week....then off to the big ride.

As predicted my training didnt really go.....at least I can guarantee I didnt peak too early!

I had a good week up to the 4th.....got the full death ride miles and over 10k of climbing (in 5 days of riding)....then flew to Colorado and followed my 6500 ft climbing day with a big Boulder hike. After that was just walking with parents and 1 spin on my mtn bike.

My plan is to just take my time and do my best to finish.....we will see.

    Roll call......

My self and two buddies from work are headed down Sat morning. That said, I am riding solo (one guy faster, one slower).

Anyhow, super stoked for a big ride / nice challenge. My number 1 goal is to keep myself in check. Last year I passed tons of people climbing 2 + 3 (got on a dudes wheel and we hammered).....but then bonked and it took a long time to recover. Sure and steady.....
---and I hurt my knee on the 5th pass last year, took a couple months to come back. So....if I am hurting, then I will call it at 4. Ego isnt worth an injury.

    Good luck to all.

Take it as easy as possible early on and you'll be fine for all five. I'll be there w/ Mrs. Madturtle. We're camping at Turtle Rock (how fitting...awwww) tonight and probably tomorrow too. Stop by for some post ride beers...we've got a yellow and grey walrus tent.

And I'll be riding a silver allez w/ a green and grey jersey.

Good luck to everybody this w/e. Cheers.

Well, I was talking about doing the Death Ride again a while back, and, well, My little brother got his arm stuck in the microwave. So my mom had to take him to the hospital. My grandma dropped acid this morning, and she freaked out. She hijacked a busload of penguins. So it's sort of a family crisis.

But really, I'm just not in the shape I was last season, and not feeling amped to do it if I can't beat last year's time.

    Good luck to all!

Saturday morning, Mrs. C. and I (and possibly others) are riding the rim trail from Mt Rose meadows, if you feel like joining us. If it turns out to be a larger group then we'll set up a shuttle; if not, it'll be a quicker out-n-back.

Good luck to everyone, this is a really fun ride, keep drinking, eating and pace yourself and you'll get your little pin!

My wife few month's ago took the 5 patch's and pins I got from 2001 to 2005 and made a nice little framed wall hanging that looked great. Bummed that it burned up in the fire, guess I'll just have to ride the dam thing 5 more times

God Speed to the Death Riders.

    TS good luck dude.

I'd need a 10lbs bag of Gummie Bears to finish that ride.

    That can be arranged.

Anyone coming out....I am riding a big (64") dark blue "Hunter" steel....I will be easy to spot because I am leaving my rear rack on my bike. In the fancy bike crowd at the DR, I think that will be pretty rare. I have it on for commuting, and was going to remove, but fug it.

So....tall dude, silver helmet, prolly a DR jersey from last year, blue bike with a rack.

Slap an empty beer on the rack just to fvck with the tight ass roadies. Passing people on climbs with a box of beer on the rack would be cool.
