The problem with shooting raw or .tiff on a point and shoot camera is that they typically have a very small (if any) memory buffer. So if you’re trying to shoot skiing or any sort of action, you are severely limited by the speed of the memory card.
Raw and .tiff files are so big, it takes a relatively long time to transfer the image to the memory card. And in the meantime, the camera won’t take pictures.
I was using a sandisk extreme IV, which was reportedly the fastest card available, and still could barley shoot skiing in raw format.
I agree with this. The nice thing about the cannon hack is that you can choose to shoot first in series RAW then JPG. Also, there is a shortcut where I can toggle between raw and jpg in two clicks- really helpful.
