    Tartar Sauce?

Do Americans have Tartar Sauce? I just found myself wondering this. I love the shit, goes well with a nice bit of fish and chips. But I can't help but feel when the red-flavoured jam tastes of tartar sauce, that I'm in for the worst bit of toast I've ever had.

Thoughts? Opinions? Love for Tartar Jam?

Yea, we have Tartar Sauce, though I don't know if it's the same thing that you have over there... perhaps similar to how South America has "Ketchup" ... technically true but not particularly tasty in practice.

Smithers: Our first issue, sir, is our low productivity and record high
    worker accident rate.
    Burns: [expels breath] Any suggestions?
Advisor1: A round of layoffs might wake up the idiots.
Advisor2: We could put caffeine in the water cooler.

Burns: How would you improve the worker situation?
Homer: Well, sir, for one thing, we have a problem every Tuesday when
the cafeteria would serve fish sticks...
Burns: Fish sticks!? What in blazes are you talking about?
Homer: Well, sir, they cut the head off the fish, then chop up the rest of
the sticks [sic]. And then put seasoned breadcrumbs on it...

Burns:Let the fools have their tar-tar sauce!

I would even venture to say Summit County has better fish and chips than most in the UK.

The pub fish and chips in London were some of the soggiest most disgusting pseudo pieces of fish I've ever seen/tried. I must have tried over a dozen pubs. all the same shite.

That was your error. You don't go to a pub for fish and chips, you go to a chippy! Bloody tourists don't know anything . Next time you're in London we'll show you the proper stuff.

    Cod, chips and mushy peas................mmmmmmmmmm.

mayonnaise + relish = tartar sauce.... maybe throw in some onions, garlic, and/or lemon juice.

It's tough to fuck that up, even for an American.

    Tourists

I bet he sat in the pub for 40 minutes bitching that no one had come over to take his drink order.

And then gave the barman a tip.

Think that real fish & chips from a chippy eaten out of the paper with the little wooden fork is the the thing I miss most.

I wouldn't go to London for fish and chips. I had some in Oban that could have been on my plate in an expensive restaurant and I would not have been disappointed.

Tartar sauce is great (I like it on the chips better than on the fish).

    I tried that too. unsuccessful.

no my bitching at pubs was confined to the fact that you people still don't have ice machines so I can have a proper whisky and soda. oh, and when I was there the pubs closed at 11.

FreeRangeLobster. your distain for fish and chips is like replying to a thread about hamburgers and saying they suck compared to a Morton's filet.

Growing up along the Great Lakes and then moving away gave me a great appreciation for Friday Night Fish Fry. Perch is one of the best tasting fish to deep fry.

Good to see that the old "no ice" ploy still winds up the American tourists.

It's pay back for you guys not knowing how to make a proper cup of tea.
