After a 100 and sumthin days skiing it was good to trade sticks on the feet for the rowing sticks.
Headed up to the Green w/ my dad, fur kid and a soli patroler and his dad.
A 4:20 am ish depature had us in Dutch John around 9. We put in at the Flaming Gorge dam for an 8 mile float of the "A" section. There wasn't a lot of bugs on the water and most fish were caught nymphing deep with blood midges, wd40's, rs2s and scuds. A 2 to 3' dropper of the dry worked well in shallower flat areas and a few fish were willing to eat a cricket.
My pops w/ a nice brown
It was great to see my 1st boat refurbished and back on the water as was it to see Craig, who worked w/ me in the tuneshop all winter, catch his 1st trout on a fly.
Chris and Craig running Bridge rapid.
At Little hole we loaded up camping gear and floated a mile or so down to Cottonwood camp.
The next day a front came thru and while the near gale force wind made fishing and rowing challangeing fish were caught and it never really rained. I was anticipateing a decent blue wing olive hatch but the winds shut it down.
wind
Kessler says fkna lets get our float on
Floating out from Red Creek camp the next day was nice until finding the Browns Park road had eaten another bearing on my trailer. We managed to limp back to Dutch John and git it fixed.
My touring partner Topher was supposed to get off work early and meet me for another couple days camping.
Him getting off early didn't happen and a hippy in a beat up subbie profile stop by WYO HP relived him of some important fishing supplies.
They let him go with a ticket for court appearance and he made it into town finally .
A 3/4 moon made the midnight lauch and float down Cottonwood enjoyable. The river at night is quite a peaceful place.
After some late night partyin the next day was stellar.
starting w/ the breakfast of champions.
While not a hatch per say there were quite a few flying ants on the water and the fish were rising to dine.
Fish were caught
Dummies were retrived
Dummies tried to retrive fish![]()
FKNA wearing this shirt added 10' to my cast.
I'm hoping for a pm gear FKNA polypro next season to add 10' to my hucks
Kessler was a kickass river dog and aside from some backseat woofing/driving and wanting to help land fish.
A shot of a couple of Whiteies
All in all another damn good river trip.
but like this wind jacked rig game over for now
I am gonna try and head back up 5/11-13th or 14th for an A B C float/camp
