    Thumbs up WP/MJ report

Not a bad day. Jibij and I hit the park and had a pretty good day. Somehow I slipped into some sort of "park demonstration" or something and got upside down a couple of times. Then I got into trouble when they realized I wasn't part of the special group. D'oh!! Jibij greased a 3 tiered funbox and made it look smoov. I think I blew up more times today than I have in a long time. Including the weirdest damn wreck I've been priveleged to be a part of. I was working on back flips on one of the larger tables and upon landing (weight way too forward, barely got the flip around) I double eject from my heels and go flying right onto my head. While on my head (with the rest of my body straight up in the air) I slid on my head for about 15 feet and then my legs fell over the rest of the way. When I got up jibij was seriously concerned that I was messed-up. I couldn't stop laughing, because I realized what just happened. There was no real impact. I just flew onto my head and started sliding. Weirdest wreck I've ever had. It didn't hurt at all. Lots of lawndarts, fronts, and spins today. A few backs, but none that great (other than the wrecks). We took a little video today, but unfortunately jibij's boxslide and my headslide didn't get filmed. jibij may have some pics to post later, and at the end of all these slushy park days maybe I'll have some footy to post.

heh... that friggin' head slide was easily the freakiest thing i've ever seen anybody do with skis on. he was literally upside-down, feet straight up and sliding on his helmet. i should never be allowed to hold a video camera again for missing it.

i spent most of the day shooting with the panorama lens and it looks like i might have a few decent shots, but none of md9 worth keeping. we just couldn't seem to get our timing to sync up.

fun day in blue skys with 50-60 degree temps. we need snow bad!

must have missed you guys up there today. Got a late start and didn't make it over to the trauma park until around 1 PM. Fun stuff though. Must have just missed you MD, because I overheard a couple of snowboarders in the liftline saying, "dude, I can't believe that skier, the ski patrol told the group not to do any straight on inverts and this one skier came along and threw one of those lawn darts right after he said that.....blah blah blah...." I figured you were the skier throwing the dart when he wasn't supposed to

    Fun day.

i've been working on an idea for sequenced panoramic shots and yesterday was going to be the day i got one of md9 doing a lawndart. i never got it because i SUCK, but i did get a couple others of random skiers/boarders. here's one that'll at least show you what i'm trying to do (still working on quality issues):

    sequenced panorama test (java required)

also... who's gonna be at Loveland tomorrow (monday)? 4-8 of fresh supposed to come in tonight.

    Entertaining post.

I could be at Loveland tomorrow. Don't really want to ski dust on crust, so hopefully the snowcount will be closer to 8 than 4.

I may be up for Loveland on Monday, but only if SheRa isn't driving.

    Second that, very cool.

[Video JONG] - I'm curious to know how you put the sequence together. [/VJ]

Pinner and SheRa... if the total is close to 8" tomorrow morning, i'll be heading up with plans to be there around 8:30am. i plan to spend the bulk of the morning over on lift 8 where there's usually lots of snow and few people.
green jacket, tan pants, white lid, TGR and FOBP stickers on the snowboard.

Cornholio and IG... thanks. IG, there is no video involved. i have a lens that shoots a 360 degree image in one shot. it looks like this:

    http://www.mediarite.com/powboard/seqpano1.jpg

i have software that unwraps that image to look like this:

    http://www.mediarite.com/powboard/seqpano2.jpg

i do that for each shot in the sequence, then build it as usual:

turning it into the interactive panorama as linked to above takes a couple more steps.

    CAIC report:

Snow is still on track for tonight. Winds will increase into tonight with strong W-NW orographics. This will favor the N&C mtns, and the NW San Juans. The models are showing more available moisture so snowfall amounts will be greater than I anticipated yesterday. Look for snow to begin late this afternoon and early evening in the N&C mtns, and later this evening in the S mtns. Wolf Ck Pass will be on the low end foraccumulations. Snowfall will decrease Monday, with snow showers continuing into Monday night. The forecast details:

    N Mtns
Sunday: Incr clouds, scatt showers late aftn in the Steamboat zone. Winds WSW/5-15 but G30s abv TL. Highs 27-37.
Sunday night: Light-mod snow, 3-6" but 4-8" in the Steamboat zone. Winds WNW/10-20 G40 abv TL. Lows 14-24.
    Monday: Snow showers, 2-4". Winds WNW/10-15 G20s. Highs 18-28.

If it's big I'll be there in black clothing, black helmet, red tele boots.

very fun morning at Loveland today. boot-deep, untracked snow for the first couple of hours. first faceshots while on the snowboard. occasionally bottoming out on concrete but mostly pretty smoov. went from zero vis, windy and friggin' cold at 9am to nearly blue skies and 40+ degree temps by 11am.

board... it was pretty busy for a weekday (spring break crowd). the mountain was getting tracked up fast. they'll probably do a lot of grooming on the lower mountain tonight. the runs that they don't normally groom should be decent tomorrow. i don't think it'll get warm enough today to turn it to mush. there is concrete under it though.
they didn't run chair 9 all morning due to the wind. if they don't run it the rest of the day, the ridge could be decent tomorrow. although it's still pretty thin up there.
i have no plans to go back this week unless there's more snow. today was the day.

edit: although Saturday could be a bluebird park day.

missed you kids in jib-land. we made cirque laps most of saturday and sunday, with a few runs through whatever chutes were open thrown in. good slush bumps in there.

anyone heading up for more corn/slush this weekend?

I'll be up, not sure what day yet though. More than likely Sunday.
