i'm quite curious on what will happen when gas prices rise so high that farmers sell their wheat or corn to the local refinery instead of the food industry.
i'm curious on what happens when food prices (even your t-bone steak used to be nothing but a couple of pounds of corn at one point in time) start to be more or less directly depending on gas prices.
i'm curious if the about 2 billion people that are merely worried about their next meal will have an understanding for blurreds need to pour their annual need of corn into his 120 liter tank to get a full refill.
i mean the mere ideal to reduce co2 emissions in order to try to keep his environment a comfortable place to live has never been a convincing argument to him. you know? he is worried his neighbour might then be using more gas than he does and for some wierd reason he feels compelled to be the one to use the most gas out of all for now and forever. (it probably has something to do with being able to say: if somebody is gonna fuck up the world at least i wonna be the one who can claim he did it. but that is another topic) but i'm curious if those two billion people will eventually be able to present a stronger argument to him.
or will meatpuppet chime in with some 19th century social darwinism claiming there are too many people living in this world anyways and that we should all step on the gas in an act of mere patriotism to save not only america but the whole world which in his eyes seems to be the same all too often.
so yeah, all in all i'm quite curious on what is going to happen.![]()

You let people suck your truck?
If you had simple mischaracterized my beliefs/position them I might respond. As it is you are 180 degrees from what I believe and have posted. Which suggests that you have me confused with somebody else, or you aren't really interested in having a discussion, or both. If you are ever interested in an actual discussion, let me know.
I dont really mind higher gas prices. I drive a 4 banger subaru and can easily afford the 10-15 miles of driving I do everyday. the extra $10-$15 a week I pay when prices spike is insignificant to me on a daily basis. I dont feel sorry in the least for anyone who drives a truck or suv with poor gas mileage.
hopefully the long term effect will be that those folks will feel the wallet pinch and either drive less or buy a more economical vehicle. truck and suv sales have dropped significantly in recent years, so automakers have already taken the hint and are manufacturing more vehicles with better fuel economy. whatever people decide to do is their own business, but my retirement funds are loaded with oil/fuel and credit card companies.
The less gas you guzzle on the road, the more beer you can guzzle at home.![]()
ExxonMobil has concluded that non-OPEC production will peak by 2010. On the basis of this forecast, ExxonMobil has publicly stated that it will build no new refineries.
Cars will be electric in the future. thats my view.
Unleaded Gasoline RBOB, which is the current specification used in the United States is a difficult spec.
In the summer, the spec is EXTREMELY difficult to blend, meaning, the components which must be added to straight run gasoline to get to the RBOB spec are just plain pricey.
In the winter, the spec is VERY easy to blend.
Also, the US govt has mandated increased usage of bio fuels (ethanol, from corn, switch grass, sugar and the like, actually u can make fuel grade ethanol from many different things) into gasoline. Ethanol is VERY expensive to produce. Without the current HEFTY subisdy from uncle sam, no one would make the stuff. also it takes a lot of natural gas or coal to make the ethanol... (surprise.. you cant escape fossil fuels that easily!!!!)
for all the corn farmers to continue making ethanol sans subisdy, gas prices have to go up..
in short, gas prices will rise. itll always be much worse in the summer than the winter, due to demand issues and also because the spec is tough to make and uses expensive octanes. but be sure retailers will always try and railroad you at the pump whenever.
the future has to be electricity. nukes make clean baseload power, very little enviornmental impact compared to fossil fuels.... coal sucks and emits tons of greenhouse gases and in turn is the biggest way you get your lights on.. sadly it is the largest contributor to global warming, not your car.
in the future, (its happening already), each wheel on your car will be independently powered electricly. why? because its infinitely more energy efficient than an axel drive.... when a combustion engine drives and axel, it loses tons of energy in heat and the like. this goes for any creature comfort in your car like the computer, radio power steering etc....
if you are really keen read a book called

Where our (elected) leadership goes we follow. They're talking. We're talking. They're nervous about how increasing gas prices will affect their reelection chances (politician's first priority is to get elected, second priority is to get reelected), and we're thinking that the bozos got us to $3/$4/$5 gallon and don't deserve our vote. So talk, and votes, is all we've got.
ps. Put in a couple of fluorescent light bulbs - will that help![]()
BTW
How did that whole "gas-boycott" thing work out last tuesday??

Fortunately in Yurp they have the infrastructure to support it. Most people live in town with easy access to public transportation and most places are within easy reach by walking. Most of my family that lives over there rely on Auto transport very little. When they were here visiting they could not believe how much we have to rely on our cars.
I have gone from 1 tank of gas a week to 1 tank every two weeks, just by consolidating trips and not being wasteful I want to see if I can make it a whole month on one tank of gas. we'll see...
This whole thread is stupid. It doesn't apply to me anyway.. In a short period of time, I'll be able to afford all the gas I want!!!
Apparently Bill Gates is sharing his fortune. AOL and microsoft are running an email beta test tracking emails. For every person I forward this email to, Microsoft will send me a check for $245, for every one THOSE people forward it to, $244, and so on.
I'M GONNA BE RICH!!! RICH, I TELL YA!!!
(Blurred, I'll forward it to ya!)

i bet you would love to upgrade to an H2, wouldn't you?
It's fuckheads like you that are driving the world into a hot inferno. instead of realizing there is a problem and trying to better the situation, you tell everyone to fuck off. in the back of your mind, you know very well that something isn't right, but you just ignore that little voice, put on your jeff gordon hat you got from the home depot, throw in the Copenhagen, chug the Budweiser, load up the shotguns, fill up your hunk of shit(what you think is a Caddy) with Haliburton's finest diesel and let her ride. people like you are so damn stubborn. gas can reach $10 a gallon and you'll still bleed at the pump everytime you need to fill your Tank, just to prove a point. The point that you are a wasteful american.
keep rockin cowboy. i'll be ridin my bike in the meanwhile(maybe trying to contribute as much as I can to save this dying planet)

Well, I have two Toyota Corolla's that average about 38mpg. I consume a total of about 25 gallons of gas per month between my wife and I.
When I use my 12mpg motorhome, that number goes up to about 60 gallons per month for four months out of the year. I don't use the generator on the motorhome, because the roof is laced with 200 watts of solar.
I am researching to see if Utah offers a tax rebate for solar home applications. We'll see where that goes. Could be a good write off, and we get plenty of sun.
I don't ride chairlifts, not for Carbon Emission reasons, but because I like to exercise. I have no snowmobile, sold it.
I cut my limited grass with a 4 stroke motor, and use an electric weed whip.
Anyway, that's where I stand in this "Carbon Footprint World". I'm a polluter, no doubt. But I'd like to improve where I can. Probably the best way would be turfing the motorhome, but that hardly ever gets used anyway.
yawn. Somebody wake me up when the world gets sorta serious about its ongoing problems.
"It is not the result that counts! It is not the result but the spirit! Not what - but how. Not what has been attained - but at what price.
- A. Solzhenitsyn
I think you do a real good job. We're all polluters but if people can just do what they can I think it will go a long way. This doesnt mean giving up cars or anything- just be conscious about things. Even the "luxuries" like a 12 mpg motorhome can be enjoyed if other things are used smartly, like the electric weed whip and solar panels. Or taking a SUV to the mountains while carpooling- the little things add up.
