    price of gas

    e-mail I got-

    > The Price of Gas

    >Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.
    >
    > This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the
    >"don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last
    >April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew
    >we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It
    was
    >more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
    >
    > BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has

    >us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is
    >super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my
    >town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned
    >us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 -
    $1.75,
    >we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control
    the
    >marketplace..... not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more
    >each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going

    > For the rest of this year, DON'T

    explain
    >how simple it is to reach millions of people.
    >
    > I am sending this note to 30 people. If

    >the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have
    >reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get
    excited
    >an d pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will

    THREE
    >HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
    >
    > Again, all you have to do is send this
    >to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach
    300
    >million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well,
    let's
    >face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on
    this
    >one.)
    >
    > How long would all that take? If each of
    >us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt,
    >all 3 00 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next
    8
    >days!!!
    >
    > I'll bet you didn't think you and I had
    >that much potential, did you?
    >
    > Acting together we can make a
    >difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I
    >suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES
    >TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

    > THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

I don't know if that makes sense, but I've started to by my gas primarily from Sunoco, based on this: http://www.betterworldhandbook.com/gasoline.html

That said, I'm commuting by bike, bus and carpool this summer. I'm going to try to use the car only when absolutely necessary!.

I paid 3.34 in Seattle yesterday, up from 3.21 the day before. There are very few Exxon/Mobile stations in the area, Shell and Chevron seem to have the monopolies here. The price of gas is up ~$1 from February.

These threads come and go with gas prices. Happens every summer.

How about buying a fuel efficient car, to start.

I go by the middle schools on the way to work, and nearly every vehicle is a soccer mom driving an Escalade, Lexus, Landcruiser, Range Rover, or other dumb ass, gas guzzling vehicle.

I put chains on my car once this winter (2 wheel drive Corolla). You don't need four wheel drive, atleast 99.9% of the population doesn't.

I think price should keep on going so people will realize how dependent they are on gas. Also there will be more interest in alt fuels in the northwest right now diesel is almost the same as bio diesel. Also with how markets work this plan is pretty does nothing to lower gas prices. Doing something like using less gas would on the other hand lower prices.

Conservation by EVERYONE is the only way to decrease the price of gas, as it will result in less demand.

Anyone who thinks they NEED a big gas guzzeling vehicle that doesn't NEED a big vehicle, (i.e. construction, emergency vehicles etc), should consider purchasing a smaller more fuel effecient vehicle.

I for one have reduced my consumption of gas by seriously reducing the number of miles I drive per week. I consolidate all of my trips, share rides with neighbors and now keep a bike in town at a friends house so I can drive and ride. I get a little exercise and save on gas while running around town.

not a popular view, but are lower gas prices really good for us? I mean, at some point gas prices will be high enough that they encourage people to drive less, or at the very least get more fuel efficient vehicles, which is good for the environment (and ultimately the economy by extension, although most people seem too short-sighted to see the potential for environmental problems to wreak havoc on our economy in the long run...) i'm not saying hybrids are the answer necessarily, i've seen the numbers/arguments about the true environmental costs associated with hybrids and also the idea of a brand new car vs. an older car staying on the road longer... but there is no reason for the vast majority of people to be driving SUVs...

    I grew up in Europe.

The only thing I can say is: Gas is WAY to cheap over here in the US.
The US government should triple the gas tax so that people really start thinking about how much they are using.

The average US citizen uses about double the amount of energy than a Swiss citizen for example.

Well, it appears to be well written, most likely by a person with decent intelligence. therefore I doubt the writer could really be stupid enough to believe this crap. I think that it was probably written as a social experiment, to see how many people are so incredibly fucking retarded as to not only believe the message, but be so moved by it that they retardedly think that it would be a good idea to forward it to whomever is unlucky enough to be on the retard's mailing list.

We will never change in this country. It's our culture, and has been since we've had the internal combustion engine.

We like big cars, big trucks, and total independence.

The all-time high crude price was $78/barrel last summer. Currently we're at about $66, so it's not really that close yet.

this would further the gap between the haves and have-nots, would really hurt the lower income classes by taking away independence. Middle class on up wouldn't flinch too much except to trim already fat excesses away, or use their buying power to change travel and vehicle habits. So once again, the people with no $$$ get SCREWED...

Here's a rule to follow: never forward anything that doesn't have a date. Otherwise Craig Shergold will never stop getting postcards.

Got this same chain letter earlier this week. I read some where that if everybody try to boycott a few of the big boys it would actually cause gas prices to go up rather than down. So we're screwed regardless. By the way, I think Exxon just announced another recordd breaking quarter for profits.

Exactly half that here. Well the cheapest is anyway. And my boat will take 60 gallons please. And another 40 in the truck. Another couple in the snow blower. The lawn mower, the blower, the trimmer. I think that's about it. Hang on. I can get a pair of skis for that So while we might use twice as much gas it costs half as much so it all evens out in the end. Phew

Wrong! Gasoline is leading the way up and is only .20 from an alltime closing high. Oil and Gasoline have decoupled the way they did when Crude oil was leading the way up. Much has to do with crack spreading and in general the action of hedge funds.
