    Nolichucky (Picture TR)

Rain has been scarce here and the Noli was about the only thing left running around here last weekend. BUT, it was in the mid 70s, sunny, and warm enough to swim if you wanted to.

It was good for spending time at Jaws, which is a popular surf spot with HUGE eddies, calm water downstream, and large rocks on the bank to sit around on, hang out in the sun and drink beer. Its a good place to mess around and try stupid stuff. Someone even brought out a surf board for some action.

These were taken with Mark's camera, we passed it around at Jaws. Mark took all the shots from 1/4 mile hole.

I’ll start with the Jaws shots of us amatuers, then move on to the good stuff:

    Jaws @ ~ 1100 cfs

    Mark:

    Peter:

Matt doing his favorite move (Its not complete without the “THUNK”):

After watching a few people go in with no paddle, I thought since the hand roll had been pretty bomber in the RX I’d give it a go……Turns out the hard part wasn’t surfing, but getting in:

    Hmmmm how about here:

    Here?

Almost in and some dumbass runs down the ledge to knock me out:

    Finally!

Even got to try out the combat hand roll

    More shots from Jaws:

    Continued.....

Ok, now time for the good shit. We decided to hike out on the tracks after 1/4 mile rapid. At the level it was at the river gets pretty lame for the last 6 miles or so. Then we saw these guys throwing down in 1/4 mile hole and decided to walk down and hang out for a few. You will see how close the staging eddy is so you have to roll fast, then there is an undercut right downstream and a nasty 6 ft drop left of the undercut.

You might recognize a few of them.
