Storage lift / hoist for Kayaks

    Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has successfully fabricated a hoist system for storing their Kayak's ?

Looking for any advice, pictures or plans you may have.

    Thanks in advance!

I don't have pics (camera is with wiffey in Germany), and I don't have a kayak. But I do have a canoe.

I use a pair consisting of a couple of 1" pullies, a Harken angled self locking cleat (and a fixed cleat for redundancy) and some 1/2" rope/line. One pair of pullies directly above where the canoe/kyack rests, and one on the wall with the cleating directly below. I use strapping (although creating a loop in the line with a bowline would work fine) which is placed a third of the way from the bow and stern. And the car fits below with ski rack/box without any problems.

One heads-up is to take into account how the garage door opens and leave some clearance. Just set the stuff up with the garage door open - duh ! Depending on weight more sophisticated or meaty (and more expensive) pully systems could be considered to ease lifting but my canoe is some super-light kevlar number. Make sure the pullies are suitably anchored into studs.

I think I still have the whole system I used to use for my kayak in my old house. It was a couple of pulleys and a cleat (to over simplify). If I can find it, do you want to buy it? Its not home-made but built for this. If so, PM me.
