Stupid Tax Return Deadline question (Apr 17)

Is it due 12:01am April 17 (ie. tonight after midnight)

    or 11:59pm April 17 (i.e. tomorrow night)

Either I have 8 hours to go, or 32 hours to procrastinate.

More importantly, does Fabrizio file as a W2 or a 1099?

It's Midnight on the 17th....so you have 32 hours.

I just paid mine online 5 minutes ago. At least I got some extra frequent flier miles on the way...

Extension! It's fast, it's simple and you can carry on your fine procrastination form for months to come.

(But you still gotta pay the man pronto)

It has to be postmarked/efiled on April 17th. So you have until 11:59:59.99 PM on April 17th.

File your return w/$0, or file an extension. Either way, usurious interest begins to mount.

It's better to beg, borrow or steal the $$, than to owe it to Uncle Sam.

As FZ said- the payment deadline is April 17th. You can file an extension until August, but whatever you owe has to be paid tomorrow.

really? I did that last year and there was some major fee on the order of a couple of percent which was worse than the free shit my CC gave me (and the value of most CC benefits like free shit, cash dividend, miles etc run on the order of 1-2% of what you spend).
The state of california is ripping me off this year.

Yeah, I was all set to pay with my Amex via TurboTax when I noticed the little comment about the fee. I would have gotten some SERIOUS miles this year, but it wasn't worth the 2.49% fee or whatever it was.

yeah, there's a 'convenience fee' for the online route. don't have everything in front of me now, but I didn't think it was that big of deal. If I owed a HUGE sum though, yeah...I would have thought twice.

You don't have to pay the whole amount, minimum payment is $1.00. You will owe interest though. Go to www.irs.gov and look under forms and publications, look for form 4868. You can also get instructions for the form. You will have until August to file, but you will accrue interest the whole time.
I know this because I procrastinated several hours less than you and got my 4868 in the mail already!
In drove this drunken madman and stopped on a dime! Unfortunately the dime was in Mr. Rococo's pocket!

You can apply for a "payment plan". My accountant did that for me last year, you declare what you can pay each month, write an innitial check and send in the form with the check. Then the IRS bills you each month and charges you 6.5% interest on your balance. Not a bad deal compared to a credit card.

I'm sorry I don't know what form to use but imagine a quick search of the web site should hook you up.

Or...like me, you can start a new LLP in November and take o 50+ grand loss in the LLP (start up costs) that tax year. Makes for a nice way to fund your first quarterlies.

I filed and sent in a $100 check. Its off to the bank to get a loan or credit card.

This whole thing started because I worked as a consultant for a non-profit. I should have set money aside for taxes but my job came to an end and I was once again broke. I started working under the table cleaning chimneys and gutters, so I only posted 16,000 for my gross income for 2006 yet I owe almost 20% of this.

My days of slacking and proscratination have come to an end...............

Don't you have deductions? Did you buy consultanty things like laptops, office supplies, put business mileage on, etc?

If you have a receipt, it's deductible

    Hows that song go?

Not to mention everything was reimbursed back to me through the organization so they got all of my receipts.

Yep, they basically pass on the fee that Visa/MC charge every retailer which I believe is around 2%. It was going to total nearly the value of the free frequent flier ticket we would have received.

Hmm, paper losses. I need to figure out something here for the coming year to not get bent over quite soooo badly next year.

Did you charge it? If so you should have a credit card receipt and the actual receipt.

You, know, in case you need the 2nd receipt as *cough cough* back-up in case *cough* your other receipts that you already submitted get eaten by the non-profit's dog. Or something.
