After furthehr research, pondering, and a ski outing, I am wishing I could get one of these lenses for my Canon to use on backpacking trips and in couloirs.

It is at least 1 order of magnitude beyond any other superzoom on the market. There is nothing else like it out there right now.

I still wouldn't use it as a primary all the time lens.

I just picked up this lens on Friday of last week... Haven't had much of a chance to play around with it yet, but so far I would have to say I am enjoying it immensely.. As someone who doesn't have an unlimited or really any sort of budget for camera equipment, I think this lense will suit my needs just great.. That is until I get for money and can afford something faster...

I would love to have this lens for what might happen this weekend. Alas, it's just going to be the SD850 P&S.

    Not.

Seems like the Nikkor 18-200 would be perfect for skiing...as long as the light is good.

Personally, I refuse to purchase anything slower than an f/2.8, and can't stand variable aperture lenses. But that's just me.

It's a great lens. I hardly ever take it off.
It's perfect for skiing and just walking around kinda lens.
I do notice some vignetting at the full 200mm. That would be my only complaint.
