stretto is narrow and ripido is steep, but you got the message

Feck me...that is the stepest thing I have ever seen being skied.
I just cannot imagine the guts it would take to make a turn!

ungodly steep, my legs get tired just looking at it
You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistling bungholes, no spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistling kitty chaser?

    OMFG

    Gut check anyone?

That's far higher risk than I could ever justify, but it's damn impressive.

    Thumbs up

    Rad photos!

Note the boarder has an ice axe in each hand and the skier has one under his shoulder strap (yep, just whip it out and self-arrest in case of f*ck up!).

The Jager Couloir is rated TD+ overall, 5.4 technical difficulty, 3 danger, 45-55º/700m.

The Gervasutti Couloir is rated TD overall, 5.3 technical difficulty, 3 danger, 45-55º/700m. You can crank this up to ED with the direct from the summit 55º/100m.

I note that people bite it on both of these when something goes wrong (eg, serac busts loose, couldn't get the ice axe out in time).

What kind of snow conditions are required to ski these "safely?"

Oh yea, I hear people catch big air jumping the bergshrunds at the bottoms of these. Photos?

Since these are not even the most radical lines, what do the ED and ED+ descents off the Italian side of Mont Blanc look like? For example, the direct du couloir nord-est.

I'm guessing that the overall grades follow the danger factor, because you can get 5s that are D (intermediate skiing (!)).

Demented. And some of them aren't even among the green lines.

Blows my mind that the Gervasutti was first skiied in 1976, Jager in 1977.

    Sick work.

Here is the home page of Verbier61's link with many very steep lines skied by these guys. Amazing stuff.

    Jumpturn,
This guy took the bergshrund on the narrower point on the left. This is on Gervassuti. Missed the picture but was watching intently.

These two were heading up the Jager but did not appear to have skis-must have been after ice.

A friend of mine died in the Gervasutti a while back. Didn't climb it before he skied it, uncovered ice, and slid to his death.

    Holy shit now that's what I call a blog - http://www.snowhow.it/home.htm

    Very inspiring.

As for Mont Blanc extreme skiing descents, order this book - http://www.amazon.fr/Mont-Blanc-Aigu...7844329&sr=8-2

There is an english version too. It's considered the bible of steep skiing in the Mont Blanc area. Details Jager, Gervesutti, and anything else worth mentioning.

Is Fill a Plomb (ok, prolly misspelled it) in there as well? If so, what alpine grade it is (AD+?), how steep and any mandatory rappels.

    TIA

ED (extrêmement difficile)? how about ABO (abominable difficile/or in english: horridly difficult)?
