    endurance help

Can anyone give any advice for running a race that is 24 hours, 2 persons, 6.5 mile laps (little sleeping) in the middle of the desert? I'm looking for a little logistical stuff such as team planning, what's worked in the past and what has not worked! I know everyone is different.

This is my first event of the season and first of my life. What a way to start off huh? Looking at 70-80+ miles during this period so any insight would greatly be appreciated!

Anyone want to get out and run over the next few weeks? Especially late night/midnight runs?

There's still plenty of snow in the mountains to build your endurance on........................................

Let's go do a multi-peak traverse up high.

There's probably a runner's forum out there that might be more helpful. Barring that, there is an endurance section on the mtbr.com bike forums that might be helpful.

I've done 2 24hr bike races, one solo, one as a 4-person team. Here's what little advice I have: Make a pimp camp, you'll want to be comfortable when your partner is out there. Have a good support group to help you. If you can have someone pace you/ run with you, that's pretty helpful the last half of the race. Music was my key in the middle of the night, some laps I was just rocking out and watching my headlight. I was pretty much only eating GU (in the solo race)- solid food wouldn't have worked for me, and I had so little saliva I couldn't easily eat anything solid anyway. Switching from an energy drink to plain water from lap to lap worked well for me. Hope some of that is helpful.

Viva and Squirrel are both two accomplished endurance runners, I would PM either of them.

thanks all. This should be really fun, as crazy as that may sound! Moab 24 hour, May 12-14.

Next event is Wahsatch, June 16 or something. July is the WSG 50 K i believe. August sometime is the Jupiter Peak Steeplechase, Sept. 21 is the Moab 50 miler and then late oct. is the goblin 50K.

    Yeah for running!

Remember Andre? He runs quite a few Ultra's every year. I ran the Grand Canyon Double with him. He would be a great resource.

I think the best way to deal with this is to withdraw your name from the list.

Had a friend run some deal around Lake Tahoe last summer and his biggest issue was boredom in the middle of the night. He took a cell phone and called me, family, etc throughout the night just to keep his mind sharp. So, perhaps a cell phone and ear piece would be a nice addition to the items you pack. If no cell reception then music would be a must for me.

No real info to help out, I've never even considered one of these, marathons are plenty. Good Luck,
    Jay
