    Kirkwood this weekend?

Anyone planning on being up there this weekend? Looks like I made the right choice by not going up there today; 6 and 10 were on hold at 12:30 according to the website. But the 6-8" reported sounded nice and I certainly didn't do anything productive instead of skiing. Of course if it was actually good up there then I don't want to hear about it.

Looks like there is another disturbance coming Sat. I might have to buck up and ski regardless... just re-mounted the full rocker Made'ns for super swivel steeze.

We got an inch at the lake and it melted out by noon. Now normally I'm a firm believer in the K-effect...but 6-8 is just crazy talk. While they've generally under-reported in years past, this year they're being a bit liberal. But what do I know? I sat at home nursing a tummy ache all day. Damn Dodger Dogs.

I should be pulling the sand out for weekend carnage though.

won't be there - friend up from LA and a girls' night planned with 10 or 12 of us for tomorrow - mani-pedis, dinner at Medjool, and then off to speakeasy. that's right - a speakeasy - the kind where you knock on the door and provide a password and cell phones aren't allowed. What the hell should I order? Arty - help me out here.

    skied the wood yesterday.
it was..............really really good (sorry hop).
    i'm not kidding.
6-8 inches is a solid figure, with winddrifts twice that
i was astounded, as i was expecting 2 inches on cement (and therefore brought no camera).
but shawnb and i were making legit pow turns out in palisades and elswhere.

Hmmm...that depends. Do you go the traditionalist or modernist route.

The traditionalist would be drinking spirits from the 20s. So we're talking whiskey, gin, beer, etc. Except the whiskey might consist mainly of moonshine, which would be rad. I mean, just imagine how many brain cells you could kill. Still, I'm assuming they serve normal alcohol nowadays. So just order what you normally do. But be sure you order yourself a nice bourbon along the way. It would be un-American of you not to.

Then there's the modernist route. One has to ask, "Why does a speakeasy exist in a modern drinking society?" Perhaps they're serving bathtub gin and other assorted illicit spirits. If that's that case, I should never set foot in such an establishment. It would be like the proverbial kid in the candy store or perhaps one of the children who didn't make it out of the Willy Wonka factory. Mmmmm...real absinthe (which you should try also).

Or perhaps there's another reason for its existence. I'd assume smoking is allowed. So maybe that's their niche. Or perhaps there's alternative entertainment...of the Broadway St. variety...hopefully "classier"...in which case, Punani call help you with your "order"...

yup - Bourbon and Branch - reservations required and all that crap. Here are their house rules... Can't wait to check this place out!

    1. Please Speak-Easy.
    2. No name-dropping.
    3. Patience is appreciated.
    4. No cell phone use.
    5. No camera use.
    6. Don’t even think of asking for a “Cosmo.”
    7. Smokers, use back door.
    8. Please exit Bourbon & Branch briskly and silently.

Arty - here are some of their libations...

    Our Craft

One of goals here at Bourbon & Branch is to expand your, and our, horizons; with our cocktails as well as our selection of spirits. Our bourbon selection includes the hand numbered (actually hand numbered, not just made to look like it was hand numbered) Noah’s Mill, Buffalo Trace, and Rittenhouse 21 Year. For scotch we have such rare gems as the Monkey Shoulder, Glenmorangie Margaux Finish (one of 1,200 bottles in the U.S.), and the Balvenie 1971. Our rums and tequilas are what we consider the very best and include the Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 Year and the Tapatio XA (not available in the U.S.). We have but one Canadian whiskey but it is the greatest of all Canadian blends, the Crown XR (only 7,500 cases produced). You get the picture. Come down and see us we’ll be happy to pour you something you haven’t had but are sure to grow to love.

That youtube viddy looks titties to me...god damn I need a solid 5 days of bell to bell decent skiing. Gummi sharks from the Kirkwood Station work much better.

Hop - contact me. I'm thinking one day as well. Brother in law is in town, so I can't completely ditch him. Saturday is the day scheduled, but may change. May go to Squaw, may go to Kirkwood, may drive of the Bay Bridge.

I met your girlfriend receptionist at Active Care this morning, she spoke highly of you.

Yep, Cinders and me should be there Saturday
With a couple of exceptions, we never usually see any other mags though. I guess we go where it's too easy

[U]Rides up from the Bay Area, including Lift-Tick, for $89. Bus only $40.

    Just sayin'.

been there a few times, it's OK - takes itself a little too seriously...if ya want good whiskey in a cool vibe try the whiskey bar right next to Chez Spencer in the outter mission.

Yes, but does the whiskey bar have tequila too? Gahhhhh!!! Is it wrong to get drunk on a Friday afternoon?
