Kind of stunning how Chapelle and Imus have been compared here and elsewhere. I now understand a little more why he walked away from it all.

Sharpton's the worst, always picks the easy targets, never the real fucking issues and how the fuck if I may say so do you get picked to represent and entire fucking race of people and who the fuck would pick that stupid fucker.

You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistling bungholes, no spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistling kitty chaser?
Ditto on this one - my Dad was VP of Operations for a company that was approached by the good Reverend who expressed his concern over the firing of two black workers.
It was painfully explained to JJ that in a right-to-work state, a person could be fired for whatever reason. In this case however, the two blacks were among thirteen whites also let go that year for failing to meet the required productivity and attendance standards.
Didn't matter to Jesse that just cause was at play - he just wanted some money. Like Irul says - Jesse laid out his whole campaign agenda of protests in front of the business, media circuses on the front lawn, etc - all of which could be avoided if my Dad's company were to "donate" 250k to PUSH.
In the end, my Dad told Jesse to shove it. Yes, there were some halfhearted picketers bussed in to wave their signs. But thankfully, the local community did not fall for it and the bus eventually packed up and rolled off to extort some other outfit.
ADD and damn proud of it.
The double standard is crazy. This is a freedom of speech issue. It was not that bad, not any worser than Rosie saying "ching, chang, chong" on the view. Not any worse than "hymie town". People have lost their minds. What a bunch-o-dopes.

Snoop Dogg Weighs In:
"It's a completely different scenario. (Rappers) are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We're talking about hoes that's in the 'hood that ain't doing shit, that's trying to get a nigga for his money. These are two separate things. First of all, we ain't no old-ass white men that sit up on MSNBC going hard on black girls. We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel. I will not let them muthafuckas say we are in the same league as him. Kick him off the air forever."

This is not a freedom of speech issue.Nobody said he wasn't free to say this, but people are also free to protest it and NBC is free to can his ass for it.
And I respectfully disagree that it is no worse than those other things. Though all are bad, the reason I find this more distasteful is that it was directed at a very specific group of 12 or so women who did absolutely nothing to deserve it.
As for a double standard, well, what is your point? I agree that there is some type of double standard at work here, but your 2 examples do nothing to highlight the double standard I see.
Imus is a douche. But what he said wasn't racist. It was probably part true. I mean anyone would need a shampoo after playing a 2-3 hour basketball game. It was cruel and insensitive, but hardly racist. I don't know him and didn't listen to his show but I think the reaction is totally overblown. Also I think reaction trivializes the real horrors that black people went through 50 years ago Emmit Till, lynchings, that was real racism. This is a bunch of bull shit.
Look if you go out and do something important like play in a big game and you loose people will talk shit about you. Deal with it. That's real life. IF you can't handle it don't bother leaving the house in the morning. This is real life that everyone has to deal with its not just Black people. Grow the fuck up.
Thanks Snoop for weighing in with the perpetually stoned ex-gang member point of view.Snoop Dogg Weighs In:

I've read through this thread again, and this woman has no idea what she is talking about. What does she think happens on pretty much every playing field during every game. Shit talking is so much a part of the game, that the only time I have noticed it is when playing anything over seas and being amazed at the total lack of it. If anyone is prepared to "guard themselves against casual insult" it is high caliber athletes.
This whole thing reminds me of the difference in character displayed by Stuart Scott when interviewing white and black athletes separately.
I guess it's plenty okay to keep hip hop alive and well... you know... the kind where women are talked about like sex objects and depicted in videos as same.
From a business standpoint, I can see why Imus was fired from MSNBC and most likely will be fired from CBS as well. From a social and ethical standpoint, I think the argument holds little weight when comparing to other media outlets and persons.
