    It's sad when...

...a local hill closes despite having amazing coverage and enough base to last a while longer.

That's the webcams for Holiday Valley near Buffalo, NY.

Tons of coverage and amazing base depth. Yet they are closed because noone buys day passes this time of year, regardless of the amount of snow on the hill.

Powder snow skiing is not fun. It’s life, fully lived, life lived in a blaze of reality. What we experience in powder is the original human self, which lies deeply inside each of us, still undamaged in spite of what our present culture tries to do to us. Once experienced, this kind of living is recognized as the only way to live–fully aware of the earth and the sky and the gods and you, the mortal, playing among them. Dolores LaChapelle

But do you need snow to air ski?

Yup, with a whopping 600-700 feet of vertical, and 180 inches of snow an average winter.

    Wooooooooohooooooooo.

Actually though, a few world class skiers grew up skiing Western New York.

Granted they all moved away to become better skiers, lol. But hey! I make do with what I've got until I can get out.

At least you could hit up Bristol occasionally for 1200' of turns and save some driving...that's a whole lotta driving!
