Went for a long pre dawn run on the east side of the Sierra. Ended up running through one if the reservations, basically trailer trash...and encountered a massive Akita who was none to happy to have to deal with trespassers at dawn. Of course nobody was around but me and the dog. A bit of a Mexican standoff. Neither of us figured it was worth the effort that early in the AM, so we passed each other without any further discussion.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

You really need new shoes, all your toe nails are black, and I thought ski boots were bad

It wasn’t a perfect fall morning to run in Chicago.
77F with not a single cloud in the sky.
Gassed out at mile 24, but still made new PR by 1 minute 11 seconds. lol
    I didn’t die, so that’s an accomplishment.

    That's a great neighborhood!

If you haven't been down there yet then run down the Highline to Lee Gulch and to the Mary Carter Greenway south. Once you hit the greenway it's only a couple minutes to the Northern Wildlife area which is basically a maintained fisherman's trail (no bikes) along the Platte. Just before the bridge at Mineral you can veer off the Greenway fisherman's trail onto the East River Trail and take it all the way to C470. It really feels secluded and scenic despite being right in town.

Had much better weather for the Long Beach Marathon (I ran the half) low 60s for the start and morning low clouds, so over heating was not an issue. I didn't train very well for this, inconsistent short runs (4-5mi) few medium length runs (6-9mi), and no long runs, but had my best 1/2 yet, 1:49:47.
my app over estimated my time by a few seconds, but told me most of my second half was around 8:20 pace, so it motivated me to push. Official pace was 8:22, 40 sec/mi then my best 1/2 marathon. I'm feeling it today.

That's a great time! A handful of 8ish minute miles and I'd be ready to fall over!

that's the wall you hit. I hit it too before; you just gotta walk for a while and eventually your energy level reloads and you can finish it running.

Some reason GPA doesn’t work the way it should in Chicago downtown.
My Garmin was freaking out and gave me all kinda crazy datas.

Congrats on your great finish, hutash!

It was just way too hot for full marathon.
A lot of people had to walk or give up finishing.
One of my friend who’s a very fast and solid runner passed out at mile 21 and woke up at a hospital.
Even men and women winners’ time was 5-8 minutes slower than it should be.
    Horror.

Yeah I love it here! I really like where you live too, near ridge. Lots of nice old houses and big trees, still feels like a small town... a slice of Americana.

If you really want to add mileage to that run you can head back up the trail along mineral after running along the Platte and take the canal from mineral. That must be 6.5 or 7 miles round trip ? I’ll have to track it next time.

3 days after full marathon, I can walk somewhat normal again.
I did get a massage yesterday and well rested last night.
But the terrain difference (flat race) really made the difference.
Going to have one more day off today and throw 3-6 mile jog tomorrow.
I think I’ll be 80% at the half this Saturday.

    Running, Anyone...?

Here are some things I would like to share and get your inputs:

I did both 20 week (NYC) and 16 week (Chicago) training.
20 week total was 475.5 miles and 16 week total was 371.6 miles.
20 week felt a little too long that I started losing focus and tension.
16 week felt too short and I feel like I didn’t get enough mileage.
Going for 18 week training next time.

My longest run for this time was only 18 miles.
Going into training from 0 mile, it was understandable why they set my program the way they did.
(I used NYRR Virtual Training Program)
But I feel like the race would’ve ran smoother if I had couple 20’s and at least one 21 mile run under my belt.

I need to run outside, under sun and heat with humidity more.
Way to fragile for warmer temperature.

I need to prepare myself better mentally for last 6 miles.

I needed more fuel and sodium tablets.

I didn’t know how important compression soaks were (at least for me) until I ran without them longer distance.
My feet started swelling up at mile 6 and the rest 20 miles were sheer agony.
    Never again.

OOFOS are the best thing happened after the race.
(other than the first pint of cold beer)
I haven’t been able to wear anything but.

Massage probably save extra few days of recovery.

    Aquaphor rocks.
I didn’t get any chafing or blisters.

    I need better water belt.

I know I can do better and I will do better.
Will work on these and any other advices you guys give me.
No more full marathon this year, but schedule to run 2018 Marine Corps Marathon in Virginia late October which will be another warmer race.
I won’t fall apart as I did in Chicago because of the temperature.
I’m so mad at myself how I let the heat dictated my last two miles.

Running was a life style for me, not a series of programs with some sort of outcome in mind. I always trained, and always was at a certain level of fitness. Of course training can be adjusted if a major event is in the work-related I would ramp up my long run milage if I had a 100 coming up, for instance. But nothing special if I was doing 50 milers or 50 Ks. If anything, my training philosophy changed over time as I continued to learn.

Yeah, Aquaphor is miracle goo. I need to slowly taper off of it, lest my skin will start to crack.

I'm impressed that you stick to a a long-term training schedule. There's a good case that a marathon training schedule should include a 30 mile slow jogs 3 weeks before race day. Those long slow shuffles are good for body fat training.

    Maybe that’ll come later, Viva.
For now, I set a goal and train toward as well as I could and try to get the best result I can get.
I still feel like I’m very much of a beginner and a lot to learn.

That sounds like something I could use.
I only ran two full marathons.
I still get shocked what comes after mile 20 every time I enter the zone.

I could lose another 10lbs, too.

I’m adding you to my internet coaching staff!!!
