Good to know. I mostly run in Boulder mountain parks. Favorites are Walker ranch loop, stringing together South Boulder Peak, Bear Peak and Green Mountain (starting up on Flagstaff road to avoid the crowds), and Dowdy Draw to Goshawk Ridge. Also do some runs in the Indian Peaks. Haven't done much recently, but my knee feels better. Going to do a 17 mile, 6k vert this evening. Much of it after dark. Should be a good test of how a lighter couple weeks has affected me.

Ok, nice. I was living in Colorado Springs for two years - running Barr Trail, Garden of Gods, Palmer Park, Red Rocks, etc. - but I've run Green Mountain in Boulder. Super generalization, but I would say Devil's is not as big/high steps as Green, but more baseball-sized rocks that make foot placement tricky. Again, it's been a while, but my friend that does well at Leadville 100 was surprised how technical the trails were. I would just be aware of it and don't be afraid to give your legs a break and walk a bit.

They finally dialed in the route today for Saturdays race,

    https://m.facebook.com/alaskamountai...otif_t=mention

I'm feeling good, 25k vert over 65 miles in June then 50k over 100 miles in July tapered off last 2 weeks a bit, cross fingers for cool weather...

Last week did the Discrete Cirque race on mushrooms. It was fun. I powered through and ran when i knew I could run. I knew I had trained a bunch and that I should just let that take over. Stayed with top 10 up to the high ridge then dropped back to 12th or 15th, not sure. So tired, tunnel vision. Legs disconnected from brain but I could still drive em hard like they were stolen.

3500ft in about 45 min, then descend to saddle then I lost some steam on long low able pitch behind Maxs. Then the descent was horrible, super muddy, my shoes all gummed up falling on ass, lost 10 or 12 spots. ended up 19th in expert, 30th overall, so tired.

Later that evening had sudden vision on how to unify gravity and speed of light but that is another thread topic.

Then today I did 1st 5 k in maybe 10 years. I ran the course a few times the week. It was weird to change gears from up up up to xc country run stride. It was like having tons of leg and lung power but week transmission of energy to the ground.

Anyway it was a fun run with kids and parents pushing strollers and i won by like 10 minutes with 21 min (it was a hilly course)
    I am so proud.

Just back from spending 3 days in Madras OR (totality zone) with long time aging ultrarunning friends, one of whom finished Waldo 100K on Saturday. (Waldo is a GREAT ultra BTW.) All the other ultrarunners friends at the party have cut down their running mileage and mixed in bicycling or other activities. There is life after running. Get it in while you can.

I been thinking how to micro dose throughout this 10 hr climathon thing coming up. Basically 2000 FT climb to tram which downloads every 10 min on the dot.

A few ppl get 10 laps, 1 or 2 get 11 and one guy once got 12.

I have never done it but I know there is certain amount of tactic for timing your climb. Get in at 49 min and you save energy but lose rest/refuel time, where as with 41 min you went faster but get time for gel/shirt change etc until same tram leaves at 50 min mark.

One dose of LSD throughout or little mushrooms along the way ..,?

Besides cheating with drugs I want to train legit for it but hard time wise. How do you train for 10 hour event with out daily 3-6 hours training.?

3 weeks out , thinking 3 day a week triples with 30 LB vest for next 2 weeks then basic nothing week 3.

Volumetric blotter doses out of a couple small bottles. Split into any microgram concentration you desire.

You're whole post is kinda rambling, and difficult to follow. I'll just address the quotes (vide supra). Regular training with a single (or a couple) weekend runs (climbs) in the 5-6 hour range ought to suffice. Mist importantly, train under conditions you anticipate experience come race day- whether temperature, climbing, mosquitoes, etc. When I trained for 100s, I never ran longer than 45 miles in training, and even that was rare, usually never went over 40. Good luck!

LSD definitely more efficient and cleaner than shroom. If you can get the liquified acid that would be perfect. That way you can Micro dose a couple times during the race.

Consider getting a couple laps in before starting the dosing.

I like the dosing idea. Last time I was training for a 50K, I tried eating edibles mid-run. I'd usually time them so I was peaking with an hour or so of running left. If I started high, I started and stayed lazy, and would convince myself to cut the mileage short. Pretty cool to feel it coming on, and they seem to hit faster when exercising. I took them to help manage some of the discomfort of pushing mileage in training, and to combat the boredom of running alone. It helped some of the time. Other times, it would just make me focus on the discomfort. My form would get weird, too, because I'd focus really hard on that and shit would kind of fall apart.

I ran my final 5 ultras with two 10mg doses of Zoot Rocks, one dose taken 30 minutes before race start, the second taken mid-race. It worked.

You would have been halfway there. The #1 flaw of men's ultra strategy is starting too fast. The PNW's most prolific ultra champion of all time* started each race stoned to the bone. In a typical race he would run the first 30 minutes in 20th place or so then gradually work up to the front runners then put the hammer down. He won scores of ultras and set numerous course records. I don't know if he got high mid-race.

*As a courtesy I forebear from mentioning his name.

Something to be said for that DIY. Anecdotally I had some edible from Reno and maybe it was the distraction but I had a couple really good strong rides under the influence.

You can take tab(s) of blotter and put them in a known quantity of distilled water (at least 24 hours). Presto changeo you have liquid with a fairly predictable concentration.

Do people run the longer ultras on something longer lasting like stp/dom?

Uhhhh...water, Cytomax, GU, an occasional banana, and sometimes a cup if chicken soup with extra salt was nice. You really don't need much supplement to cover 50-100 miles if you've properly trained, or unless you really believe that you do. In the latter case, go to town.
