Amazing, Steve. Nice work - would love to have that much consistency over such a long time period. Very inspiring!

Not shocked at all. Also, the USADA doesn't look too good either.

Steve...for fucks sake...you are a mutant..
For all the rest mere human beings, anyone have had adductor issues? Due to old crash injury to pelvis/spine, left side of the groin is problematic. Things start to get tight, really tight after running more than 20-40k / week. Shoes & everything else should be quite ok.
Stiff by nature I am, though. And a bit of flop foot due to the old back injury.
Fucked up few years ago because I decided to run a marathon ignoring the symptoms, now the issue arises every time I start to get back to long distance shape. One doc thought that I might have tight adductors by nature, suggested operation (splicing?). Said no thanks.
So, anyone have had the same issues? Stretching tips, gym tips? Yoga...cough...?
Running track/trail/road, 4-6mm ramp, different shoes etc.
The floggings will continue until morale improves.
There are multiple adductor muscles- feeling pain closer to the hip, closer to the knee, or somewhere in the middle? There are certain stretches that focus on this group.

That seems kinda high for an adductor issue. And there are a couple more muscles in that area, I think. We did a a certain stretch back in high school football- sit on ground cross-legged, but with soles of feet together. Reach and grab feet, pull forward and rock thighs up and down, or just move thighs downward and hold. That may help with the upper adductor, near groin. I still do that stretch.
Not sure about the knee stiffness. That could be related to the adductor(s).

Yep, oldie but goldie. As pleasant to do as all the other stretches..uh. Oh well. Getting back to running gently again, some trails & dirt roads. Trying to keep it under 30km/wk for few weeks, add a bit hiking and a lot of xc biking to that. And a lot of stretching.
Started climbing again after a 6-7 year hiatus last winter and have noticed that the biggest thing holding back at the moment is my mobility...sheesh.. Can on-sight some 6b/c boulder problems if they are edgy stuff or overhang routes but if they even 6a that demand a lot reach and contortions...no dice. Embarrassing..
Oh well, still 3 months until a trail marathon that I signed up to. Trying to keep things mellow for the first few weeks, not to repeat the past mistakes and cock up things two weeks before a race...

OK try this- facing up some stairs, step up with one leg two or three up. Now lean into the upper leg while pushing that leg laterally (outwardly). You may be able to stretch the affected region.
If this doesn't work, fuck it, whip it out and start masturbating furiously.

Why is it you get sick just before a race? It's not from from over training, but spending six hours in a car with a sick wife in this case.
Some much for trying for an improved time at the Mammoth Half Marathon in two weeks.
I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...iscariot
What's the course of the half? Back in 1990-92, there was a full marathon that started at Main lodge, worked it's way down to Hwy 395, and went back up to start/finish. Kicked my a$$ both times I "ran" it.

Got a quick hour long loop run in this morning. Light and variable breezes, temps in the upper 60s, puffy white clouds. From the top of jackass hill I could see Pikes, Evans, and Longs. Such a great time to be out on the trails!

Cletus: Duly noted.
Starts at Horseshoe Lake, runs around Lake Mary, down into town and near Eagle and the gold course, then down the bike path to Meridian and back into town to finish on Old Mammoth Rd. Mostly downhill, which is a blessing, but the two short up hills are rather painful at 8,000'.

Groin pain can be a sign of back issues. Tightness, or worse. I have groin pain when I ramp up my mileage. Core strength, copious foam rolling, and LAX ball rolling the groin and inner thighs all help tremendously.
Besides stretching my hamstrings to ease lower back tightness, I rarely stretch anymore. The idea comes from an MD I run with, and a PT I started seeing a couple years ago whom I really like. Anecdotally, I've seen significantly more progress from rolling and deep tissue manipulation than from stretching. The biggest issue is that rolling can be a pain in the ass time suck, particularly where the lower legs are involved. My wife got me a Roll R8 for Xmas, and it was a game-changer. I wouldn't have paid that much on my own, but now that I have it, I rely on it when I'm putting in higher mileage. Great for daily maintenance. You can do it while working or watching TV. Then deep rolling a couple times a week with a foam roller and LAX ball to smooth things out.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.
my coworker has one of those roll R8's and holy sheet that thing is torturous
but yea I guess makes it way easier to roll out your groin. was trying to figure out how one would do that without being this limber

I sometime use a rolling pen....
Wow the R8 sounds awesome - good to know. Might ask for it for a holiday at some point, I've only played with it a little bit.
Ran a little over 7 today with 1,500 feet of climbing and felt good. Nice to finally start getting into a rhthym after not much running this past year.
8 in the rain yesterday- great fun. Remembered to grease up my undercarriage, which was nice![]()
No Roger, No Rerun, No Rent
No running but I climbed little bear peak yesterday. 13m & 6000' vert. All this running has made me a much more efficient climber in part because of the increased aerobic capacity and also because it taught me to pace myself. I used to hike full speed from start to finish but then I'd get home and be useless for 3 days after a big hike. Nowadays I keep my heart rate modest on the approach and then, when I get home, I'm not a zombie the next day. It's nice!

Chicago Marathon training day 1.
Haven't ran 3 miles in a long, long time and heart rate is through the roof.
But I got it done and many more to come!

Went reasonably well. Missed breaking two hours by 34 seconds, but running at altitude is tough.
Great day for the run, started with snow banks on the sides of the road, ice still in the lakes, and 70F at the finish. had to run through a couple of puddles, some real foot soakers. Finished sixth in my age group, so nothing to complain about. Well, except for the last half mile. Up hill and hypoglycemic, I definitely just had to grit my teeth. It is were I lost most of my time.

Haven't done much of trail running or racing.
Something I would love to try one day.
It looks like a whole new level of challenge.
The scenery doesn't suck.

And nice effort, Hu. Running at 8000-9000 feet's a bitch.
