    Hard to say.

My first thought is that it could be a way to improve strength in a run specific manner. You could accomplish this by using a light to moderate load and doing race-pace repeats up representative hill.

Running flat and /or long lengths of time still seem like it would add unnecessary stress to the system.

Other thoughts would be uphill bounding. I'll see what I can think of today.

    Bounding?
People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

Essentially longer open strides that are more forceful than running strides. The point is to drive off the ground and hang in the air before touching your front foot down. It Recruits more muscle fibers and increases power output than traditional strides, which are whats needed for good uphill running especially as the trail/road gets steeper.

Kind of random to throw in here, but I wandered through a book store this last week and saw they reprinted Once a Runner. If you haven't read it and are into running, you're doing yourself a disservice. Pick it up.

Just ordered Once a Runner (along with a chain whip and a DVD). Looking forward to it.

23 miles w/ 3k of climbing last night in 3:43. Mid 70s, high clouds, sunset, perfect singletrack, couldn't ask for better. Now to rest up for GC next sunday (had the dates wrong earlier in the thread, running it 5/31).

Anyone have any input on what I should do during this taper-esque week? I pretty much totally rested all weekend, walked maybe a few miles, did some light yardwork and about an hour of yoga. I was thinking an easy 6-8 mile run, an easy 1-1.5 hr MTB ride and maybe an afternoon or two sport climbing.

Make the wife dinner, go to a movie, etc.

Take some time to do those things that you may have been missing due to the large load of training. I would say do as little actively as you can mentally get away with. You're tuned up and ready, anything else isn't going to help. Just do enough to keep yourself from going crazy.

Is bounding not a bit irrelevant for uphill running?

You dont want to be striding out beyond your centre of gravity going uphill, certainly not over any distance. Bounding is going to engage the hamstrings when you really want to be using gluts and keeping everything 'out the back'.

On saying that I imagine it will give you a core of solid steel!

I am running the HSBC Calgary Marathon this Sunday.. My first one, did all the training and I am ready. Feel good mentally and physically. Today I'll run 15K and then 8K this Thursday and then load up on pasta Saturday night.. Can't decide on carbonara or a Classico with ground elk meat.. Or maybe just two boxes of KD and Tuna.

I am on my second week of a cold.. Fucking timing is everything, but I am running Sunday regardless. Come hell, high water or pheumonia. My personal goal is 4 hours or less but I'll take what I get with my flegm and snot.

    X Post from Crossfit Thread:

Did 5k in 21:07 on Monday Night after dinner.

Ran on the track last night. Most of my training is focused on Ultimate Frisbee and being in better shape. Workout was:

2x(5x200) 90seconds between reps, 4 min between sets
    4x100

    Times on 200s: 32.1, 32.6, 32.6, 33.6, 33.6 34.6, 35.9, 35.1, 36.0, 36.7

    Didn't time 100s.

Still need to improve running form and sprint speed, but holding speed seems to be decent.
It's not tragic to die doing what you love.

    5+ Mile Race
This year's Wachusett Mountain Race saw records being set in every category. Of course, that was because of the
redesigned route that both lengthened the distance to 5+ miles and brought the race onto dirt roads and trails.
Some people had choice words to say to the RD about the 3rd mile...such as WHAT THE H-E-Double Hockey Sticks was
that??? "The" Stu Thurston of Stu's 30k fame was heard to say, "I'm not going up there!!!" The majority of comments
    though were very positive.

Anyway, thanks to all for coming out and and almost matching last year's record turnout of 338 runners.
