Easter Weekend in Hell (Hole) - Ocoee TR

This was my first trip to the Ocoee, after spending most of my time in the whitewater park here in Charlotte I figured I needed to check out the river that everyone compares it to. Plus, its been dry as hell and dam release is really the only option right now.

We camped all weekend and it snowed Friday night, and lows both nights were in the low 20s. It never reached 40 Saturday, surprisingly due to the recent warm weather the water temperature in the lake was still decent. It was fun because I refused to use poagies.

Hell Hole is a blast, its very similar to a hole at the park here in Charlotte but bigger. We spent a good hour down there both days.

Some day I'll learn something other than sit in the hole as long as I can and maybe spin a few times.

    A few from above HH:

Some more, this girl takes some quality pictures... (Yes, I did paddle two different boats, I demoed the Agent 6.4 on Sunday). That's markhpnc in the black full face. There are a lot more but I don't feel right posting a bunch of somebody elses pictures.

Too bad it got ruined about 2 years ago. When I was there last fall, the wave above it was more worthwhile to paddle. The wave is a one trick kinda spot but it is fast and steep. It is also sweet for HUGE Macho Moves and Kick Flips.

I will give Hell Hole one thing, when the water starts going down, it is a sick looping hole for about 5 minutes.

RS, you are really getting after it. My secon time in the yak was your first and you have come a long way. Although, we may have been first together. My first time was in the teledave and stinky kayak school on the French Broad. Great Time was Had that day. Even got to meet stinky's wife. TD still hides his when I am around. Must be scared or something.

what happened? how did it get ruined? I am curious. In my 15 years of paddling I have never paddled on the Ocoee.

I'd like an explanation too, I wasn't paddling then....and not really good enough to notice much now.

Although it looked like the Jackson kid and a lot of others were having no trouble throwing whatever they wanted in that hole. I was definitely amazed at some of the skill out there.

I perfected the almost spin to window shade.
