Need some help in relation to TI-83+ and computer connections

I have the USB cable for my TI-83 silver edition. I've plugged it in, but nothing really happens on the computer. How do I make it read the connection? After this is done, I'd like to type up some formulas in Wordpad and export them onto the calculator. How is this done? I've had this thing for 5 years but have never done this.

haha, i used(and still do) that exact same thing. Go to www.ticalc.org (i think) and everything you need is there
