I agree...doesn't make sense. Volkl has always been a stand up company. Plus, I really think it is the last great ski that you can still get multiple seasons out of. I am through my second season on the Dragon Slayer's (their hard to find bump ski) and it still skis fantastic with a lot of energy. I am looking to upgrade the AT gear to the Volkl as well.
I would look first at the shop not Volkl. I would expect the shop I bought a very expensive ski from to stand behind the product and take care of the warranty issue for me. That is their job. They have more buying power "bargaining power" with the large companies and thus should be able to get reasonable issues resolved. What was the shop in Boulder? It seems like they are getting a free pass in all of this at the expense of Volkl.
How is K2's customer service? Just wondering because I own AK and Public enemies.
if the transaction was done through the shop i would see if volkl has the records that show exactly which model they supposedly sent out. if it doesnt match the beat-up pair you received, somebody at that shop probably has your new skis and slipped you a pair of demos.
I've skied Volkls since '88. I've had probably 4 or maybe even 5 warranty claims, with absolutely no issues. A new PAIR every time, except once, when the ski was a year or two old. That time they sent me one used ski.
Once, I ran a slalom course with a pair of 5 stars and crushed the top edge. I sent them in, and they called the shop and told them: "this is clearly gate damage. 5 stars are not race skis and we technically shouldn't warranty them. Do you know the customer? We'll leave it up to you.... it's your call"
The shop said: "I'd cover them. He's a great customer, loyal to Volkl, and buys multiple pairs per year."
They sent a new pair. GREAT company.
There is definitely something to be said for developing relationships and not being a dick.

I'll have meatdrink9 do the lighting for the shot. He'll make it artsy as fuck." - Phunk

What are you doing sending a delam back? Metal JB weld will dry in 24 hours and cause you no further issues. It also files away nicely after it dries.
Honestly... the delam/warranty thing is a major pain in the ass. Just fix them yourself. it's easier and faster.
all skis delam, they are layers of different materials held together with glues. Just reglue it and move on with your life.
"I broke my ski, they owe me a new one!" Typical youth's "You owe me." bullshit.

Send Volkl a link to this thread, see what they say.
Just my 2 cents, but I worked in an on hill ski shop for a number of years; never saw a used ski sent out to resolve a warranty issue. Me thinks someone screwed up somewhere along the line. Volkl may have initially had the right intention, but something got messed up in shipping/receiving, packing, any number of possibilities. I cannot believe they would send out a used ski, makes no sense. The manufacturing cost of a new ski is negligible to Volkl; skis are expensive due to marketing/sales/overhead costs.
Doesn't everyone keep their balls on a string?
Volkl have always been good to me with warranties too. AlBundy, that's just idiotic. A pretty new pair of skis that delam for barely any reason (this happens a bit with Volkl) are worth warrantying, especially since you're spending a lot on Volkl. I had volkls delam after 9days, I'd previously asked the rep about it because I knew they have problems, and sure enough, new skis. I don't ski Volkl anymore because I don't like their product. Used to be quality, but they don't make a ski suited to me anymore, I could never fault their warranty though.
Twister, try to ring Volkl directly, it may be hard to get their number from a shop, but it's worth it. I would ALWAYS deal direct instead of through a shop, results are quicker and better. Any warranty, ring, then send it personally with a nice letter of explanation, almost all companies will want to help you out then. You may still save the situation.
good things here too. sure you are telling us the whole story? was there impact damage?
i'm calling troll. who sends a ski back to manufacturer?
If not, fucking glue your ski next time, delams happen. Send it back if its going to be detremental to the ski's lifetime, other wise buck up and realize that skis are wear items.
Volkl has been EXCEPTIONAL with mine
I've had a few pairs of Volkls delam in the tails, mainly due to their storage in my locker at the hill as they would spend the night with a small puddle of water at the tail. I've since learned, obviously, but consider self-repair to be much easier than missing out on my skis and fucking around with warranty issues that are completely fixable DIY.
I agree that minimal skiing and delaming product deserves warranty, but assumed this wasn't the case as he noticed the delam, but kept skiing anyway. That small piece of behavior shows he doesn't take care of his goods. Maybe they were fresh skis. I don't know.

The Boulderite does not say what year they were. If they were first year, then sure, ask for some help.
But I agree the the warranty game is way out of hand. You buy gear, use it, and it breaks. That is what gear does. I really don't dig on people taking stuff back to REI 20 years later and saying it let you down. I know that has been covered a few times on the board, but you know, had to feed the troll and all.
im on my second pair of mantra's. My first pair delamed my first day on them last season. I took them back to my shop and had a new pair mounted in a week. One of my second pair started to delam at the tail early this season. My local shop tried to repair it but did a shitty job. They sent them back to volkl to get checked out, who knows, i might get another pair. If i get lucky i could get this years. Got them back and they were repaired perfectly. It took ~3 weeks, but it was a dry spell in the NE so i didnt care.
My karmas havent given me any problems, and i give them a beating.
Volkl seems to be hit or miss with service and reliabulity
I had the infamous sidewall crack issue on my first two pairs of Gotamas and Volkl was absolutely stellar in dealing with this. Something is weird here. Mistakes happen and maybe this is one of them, but from all I know their warranty department is 1st rate.
"I knew in an instant that the three dollars I had spent on wine would not go to waste."
That's WIieRD. I've exploded a couple pairs of gotamas and both times have had new skis on my door step next day from when volkl recieved the broken pairs.
(I dont know how to coppy your post besides a simple coppy/paste)
Midget:

That orig post was the story, no impact damage, I was skiing bumps most of the day with nothing comming through the surface, and I got off them pretty quickly- which Danno noted- thank you
I have a few friends at the shop so I dont think that I would get screwed by them. Anytime I had contacted Volkl Ive always been nice, maybe stronger worded then a perfectly happy cus but never mean at all- I work in the same kind of business and know that a nice but discouraged customer will get a lot further then being a dick!
