    Planet Earth ?

Planet earth runs about 45 minutes. The last 15 minutes of the show are discussions with the producers and camera people about some of the footage that was recorded. Last night they were discussing a pride of lions attacking some elephants -something which had never been cpatured on film before.

I was wondering if this material has been shown yet? And if so, did the pride bring down any of the elephants. I am guessing that they didn't because it looked like the elephants were using the pride like bowling pins, but the last final scene showed a big cat on the back of an elephant.

The great white stuff on last night was teets!

P.S. If I could make sweet love to HD, I most certainly would.

They did take it down but the elephant ran out of sight from the cameras. There were some shots of the cats chomping down after the kill though.

Thanks for the replies. I saw the lions (lionesses?) sitting around at the end, but I thought they just might be licking their wounds.

Watching this series brings up the reality that Mother Nature is a cold-hearted beyatch. And last week's episode is a fine example nature's cruelness. The episode was about the poles, and there was a short bit about polar bears and the shrinking ice-caps. The film crew followed a bear who had to be the Mark Spitz of the polar bear olympics. The dude could swim like a mofo. However, you can't expect the bears to swim all the time. So the bear was a bit tired. However, I thought the bear, despite having been at sea for four days, would pull out a ninth inning save an take down one of those lazy bastard walruses. But the bear, who I was emotionally invested in by that time, took a tusk to the leg and was gimped. My bear (You're my boy, Blue! You're my boy.) made himself a litte bed in the sand, and passed away to the big bear heaven. I was crushed.

I have no idea why I tied that paragraph, but I thought I needed to share the experience with a bunch of like-minded, crusty, polar bear-loving individuals.

Holy fucking balls. The camera work better take every single award there is.

Super slo-mo great white taking down a seal while getting 10 ft. of air
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

I kept waiting for one of those slo-mo's of seals jumping to just get exploded by a great white. Oh well. That would've made me cream in my seat. That scene was still one that we were waiting for the whole episode.

The sea snake segment was creepy as hell. I would not have liked to be that cameraman. Planet Earth is amazing though. I'll be getting the DVD's ASAP.

Yep, the great white shots were the most amazing things I've seen on TV in a long, long time.

Who would of thought they would be that athletic. Mad skills catching seals. Is it me or does it seem like seals get eaten by everything else in the ocean except small fish? They got it tough.

This series will likely force me to buy the HD-DVD attachment for my 360. I'm a slut for nature shows. Also, if you like this, check out blue planet, a much more in-depth (but non-HD) look at the seas, and narrated by attenborough.

Do it. I just bought a new Pioneer 50” plasma. The thing is insane. Planet earth is mind blowing. The other night I watched “sunrises” while I waited for the Sox/yanks game to start. No commentary, just sunrises with wind crickets etc. Hooked up to the surround sound is truly amazing.

Side note: Anyone watch that crazy snake guy? I watched him successfully wrestle a friggin Anaconda the other night.

I'm pretty sure they weren't in HD but didn't Discovery do a whole show on the sharks off South Africa getting airborne for seals and some seal dummie they strung behind the boat. In that show they let you watch it full speed, which was even more impressive IMO. But yes, Planet Earth is a kick ass show.

planet earth in HD rocks my sunday nights. I have never seen so many male college students sit perfectly still for hours at a time. Snow leopards are quite possibly the coolest animals in existence.

Those little ducklings hucking their meat out of the nest was impressive.

Additionally, when Sigourney Weaver says "Animal X should take care not to travel too far from the herd..." you just know same big ass cat is going to be having a tasty snack, tout de suite.
