We all know that the '06-'07 is amongst the worst in recent memory as far as Sierra snowpack is concerned. The east slope of the Sierra was hit especially hard. Here are a few photos comparing last April vs. this April on Slide Mt, Mt Rose Ski Resort. 2005-2006 saw close to 500 inches of snowfall at the top measuring station(~9500 feet) so far in '06-'07 abot 180 inches has fallen. Average is about 360". The Chutes opened for maybe 8 days this season, there is insufficient snow on the runout to the Chuter chair to allow them to have stayed open longer.

On with the photos.

A pano showing the Slide side on April 3, 2007. I'v been skiing here for 24 years, I've never seen it open with so little snow!!. It also has been incredible corn for the past 3 weeks. The obstacle dodging has added a new element to the skiing and to tell you the truth it has been pretty damn fun . The Slide side is scheduled to close on Easter, most resorts would have closed it weeks ago. Props to Mt Rose management for keeping it open under such conditions. The Rose side will close on April 22 but it is so BORING!!!.

Fortunatley, I also purchased a Sugar Bowl pass this season. They have received over 300" of snow and are and have been 100% open. The difference between the east slope of the Sierra and the west slope is mind boggling.

And as I said earlier, the corn snow has been incredible at both places for the past 3-4 weeks.
