Skiing here has gone to shyte in a hand basket

What is that we have done in B.C. to deserve getting California's Coconut Express weather ! It finally starts dumpin last Friday, skiin was awsume Fri., Sat., and Sun., then Sunday night the snow line rises to the ceiling! Where talkin rain to the top, like at least 7000ft. Just an example of how warm it is, Whitewater's snow report this morning at 6a.m. ...41 degrees F.! One look at the jet stream and it makes you want cry. Straight up the coast from California, to Northern B.C., then down the Rockies. In fact I checked Lake Louise's weather and they expect about the same tempratures as we have there today, that's pretty much unheard of this time a year. We were at Valhalla Powdercats yesterday, built a kicker at 6500ft, it was the only thing we could even attempt, as the top 5 inches was completely saturated. F-U-C-K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn...we got out just in time. Hit Retallack Fri - Sun and it was waist deep free refills day in and day out...unreal. It simply puked the entire time we were there, over 4 feet of new during our stay. TR and pics will be coming as soon as I can get the camera to a PC.

OK everyone take a deep breath and relax. It is going to cool off over the next couple days and snow,..... I hope. On a positive note the CAA figures things will be stabilizing over the next few days. I hope I get to ski some nice lines up at the Catamount Glacier this week.

It was 50 up at Bridger yesterday, snow was so slow, pinwheels everywhere coming off the Ridge, today is supposed to be the same.

    Saw this on weather.com:

Unofficially, 71 record high temperatures were set across the West on Monday. The record warmth stretched from Southern California into the Pacific Northwest and eastward into Montana. More record highs are expected across the Golden State today, with maxima in the 70s and 80s in the central California valleys and a few 90s in the southern part of the state. Farther north, the tail end of a storm system is already bringing clouds to Washington and Oregon. Showers are expected to overspread the area as the day goes on. This will prevent a repeat of yesterday's record heat, though temperatures will still be slightly warmer than average. Sunny skies will prevail across the Great Basin and Rocky Mountain states, with highs running five to as much as twenty degrees above average. More records are possible in Montana as downsloping winds push the mercury into the 60s.

First, it's Pineapple Express. Second, it's not ours, but migrates up from equatorial parts of the globe. Our weather systems consist of weeks straight of warm sunny days- perfect for spring skiing.

uggggghhhhh, end of feb/start of march started out so promising in Tahoe - that mega-storm 2 weeks ago was the shizzle......now this.....and, to make matters more distressing, the GF and I leave next Wed for Revelstoke, BC to hit Monashee Powder Cats - 3 days of cat skiing.....man, I hope, pray, that this high pressure breaks, temps drop and it pukes in Tahoe/PNW/BC starting early next week so I can ski powder and not slush bumps......

Ullr, we seek your divine interventon...

Aw, c'mon. Friday and Saturday rooled. So the snow will settle a little and then it'll start dumping again by Monday.'

Say hi to Nick and Ali for me up at MPA and ask them if the Order Of the Silver Snout Powder Pig Award lives on.

The Silver Snout Powder Pig Award, huh? That sounds like a good one! Hopefully we will be worthy enough to recieve this award on our trip ;-)

Also, how is the terrain up there? I have nightmares of being stuck with a group of fat dentists from TX in one piece Bogners that will hold us up or force us to ski low angle tree runs....that would be frustraing to say the least.....

The terrain there is fantastic and Nick will let the guests jump cliffs. There's lots of steeps and big vertical, so the issue does balance on your group. Nothing sucks more than to ski with a bunch of lame-os. But they do have a hardly clientele that returns year after year, so I'll bet you'll have a good time. The snomo ride in is a gas too. It looks like some dumps will be passing through early next week, so be prepared for the firehose of powder.

so sounds like we need to get Nick as our guide ;-) In the past, when I have done cat trips, we book the whole thing w/buddies that can all ski, so its never been a concern....but this time, its just the GF and I....so we are at the mercy of the group dynamic/skills thing.....

Can't wait for this trip, should be fun regardless......and keep the snow prayers focused on BC.....we need a sweet series of dumps up there!

i woke up this afternoon to the incessant rattling of rain hitting my roof. for a moment i thought i was back in the interior then i looked outside the window and saw the snow melting away on norquay and slowly started to weep. everything got fucked up today, but the good news is it allegedly didn't rain to mountain top at louise and was pounding snow at whitehorn lodge as of 4:00. and now they're calling for -17 tonight. gonna be great skiing tommorow morning . its last march all over again...
