    Overwhelmed JONG where to start?

so, I mostly stopped riding mountain bikes for about a decade....and...
I just want a decent bike that's not a peice of shit to ride around the city and some trails near the city. I don't know shit about bikes so wading through the minutia of everybody's fucking parts list on every single ad is killing me. I don't even know what model of bike is shit and what isn't. The last time I knew anything about bikes was 12 years ago when I had a bridgestone.

I'm here looking at 15 year old bridgestones on ebay because it's the only thing I know isn't a peice of shit.

Umm. is there even a chance I can get something to ride for $500? It seems like the nice bikes I see on ebay and craigslist are ~1000 at least, it's a bit discouraging, being as how that's how much my motorcycle (full suspension, disc brakes, 50 horsepower ) cost me and my really nice bmx bike cost me 300 or so.

Buy what St8line buys. Honestly, post up some options you see on KSL.com or Craig's list and we can take a better look. Don't buy a Bridgestone, please. Consider looking at REI (contact Inspector Gadget, he can really help).

You're sure you want a singlespeed?

It's a good bike for you if you do, though.

I guess I honestly don't really know. I've been riding a 24" bmx bike around town and that's been fine, I figure simple and cheap is good I don't really anticipate doing any slow technical trail type stuff. More just ripping around the city.

    and PowTron I'm 6'3"

    how about this?

Say it isn't soy? If you are just going to rip around the city, that looks good, but if you have any interest in riding the trails get the GF 29er.

Actually, screw all that BS I wrote. Just get one of these two and put a street tire on the rear. Brand new, so you don't have to worry about who screwed it up before you got it:

edit: well, after a lot of thinking about this and a lot of reading and some good advice from you guys I ended up going for a long ride around the city on my 24"er and just thinking a lot about what I want to be different with this next bike. I really like the way my bmx cruiser feels, the handling of it and the stance of the bike are just right, and I ended up thinking that if I could just find a bike that was like it with better brakes and a soft fork that would be good. So, I ended up ordering a 19" Iron Horse Yakuza Bakuto

I'm crossing my fingers that I like this beast and I can find the time to ride it through fire season...I can't even wait to go beat the crap out of it.

thanks for getting me started on this you guys...
