    Question Will you be swayed.......

by political ads that discuss the material possession of a candidate?

It doesn't bother me but it seems to have been a long running theme for all opposition advertising.

"Joe Smith says he's for the common man and yet he has a private jet." I see no correlation. Besides, isn't it the American dream to "have it all?"

Issues - I want issues not mud slinging.

It's no secret the masses are envious and often quite spiteful of those that have succeeded financially. The ads try to play those cards. We already know that real political issues are rarely used by any of the public in making a decision. Any "swing" voter that has their vote influenced by such ads wasn't much of a "swing" voter to begin with.

I can't see the Repubs doing too much of that, their man is such an easy target on the same issues, it's too easy to turn it around on him.

Andover, Yale, Harvard Business School, mansion in Kennebunkport, owned a Major League Baseball team, Daddy was the President...

Plus, he was a male cheerleader.

    more material posessions the better.

Oh and Kerry stacks up like this...

St. Pauls, Yale, Vietnam, gov't service puke, married beyong "Bush Rich". with a little JFK obsession compulsion sprinkled in.

Agreed. That's, to an extent, a measure of one's ability and success.

Now, President Bush, conversely, took over a state with a 7 billion dollar surplus and turned that into a deficit. He later repeated that feat on a much greater scale upon assuming the presidency of our country...not exactly a measure of success...

I only bring it up because there is an independent group (not moveon.org) who is running "mastercard" like ads against Kerry's wealth citing his summer home and yacht.

However....like Iceman said our standing President has plenty of possessions of his own.

It just doesn't work for me. I just don't care about their drugged out relations or homes in the Hamptons.

close, but not quite. I also hold Lt. Gov's in even lower esteem.

Oh and I said Vietnam didn't I. I didn't say anything about the medals because Kerry apparently does not put any value in them. he threw them on the steps of the capitol right??? Ohhhhhh that's right he threw someone elses.

Sounds like Mr. Prez. isn't the only male cheerleader in this discussion.

BTW, Mr. G, if more possesions equals better, then Kerry is the better man, right?

Explain your way out of that one.

by marriage does not count, in my ever so humble opinion. especially the sloppy seconds Kerry currently has. He does get points from me for his wife's Nantucket pad. I'd take that over Crawford any day of the week. If you're going to be a soft handed rancher, might as well be one close to Jackson Hole, right??

Ooooh, lemme try! Kerry possesses more intelligence, ergo he is the better man, at least as far as presidential candidates goes.

first off, where's my prize for winning your tax quiz???

oh and I said "the more, the better" not it is "posessions are my only criteria".

and yes, being born into wealth is more legitimate than marrying into it. atleast you have a right to the money.

If you marry into money, under the laws of this country (at least for heterosexuals), you have the "right" to the money unless you sign an agreement to the contrary. Likewise with family money - it's possible your family will leave you nothing.

Yes, that was a particularly stupid one, even by his low standards.

It's hard to believe that given the choice of voting for an intelligent, articulate man, or voting for a former male cheerleader (there ya go, ice) with the IQ of an orange, some people would vote for the orange.
