Thumbs up Summit Opening Party Report & Day 3 - Kirkwood

    ....coming....

EDIT: Christ......I can't even begin to write this report (although I guess that's what I'm doing now). I just tried writing it 4 different times and in 4 different styles...but I can't even find the beginning. (Maybe it's because this little journey started around last June or something). So maybe I'll start at the end.....(which is what this report is no? A cap on the end of a truly insane weekend). Damn, I'm freaking rambling now, just get to the damn point. Get to the damn stories. Get to the damn pictures. Just get to the damn getting. (but it was already got no?)....Ahhhh Yes......it was gotten. Sum was most definitely gotten.

But it's still all a blur right now.....30-40 maggots showing up at Squaw on Saturday morning, heading up KT-22 and all bombing down in swarm. 70 - 80 maggots (estimated, based on cover charges) showing up for the opening summit party to benefit the Sierra Nevada Alliance at Hoss Hoggs. tuffy109 spinning wax. maggots from BC, Quebec, Alberta, Washington, LA, San Francisco, Utah, England, Pennsylvania...from freaking everywhere meeting, drinking, dancing, laughing....stoked to finally put faces to the names and stoked to rip the shit out of whatever Tahoe can throw at 'em......stoked to keep partying after the pub kicked us out at 2 AM and above and beyond all stoked to ski as evidenced by the consistent throng of 20 maggots that stuck together in the crew I was with at Kirkwood and the 40 or so again that showed up at Bub's at "Nacho-thirty".

It's all such a blur.....and its time to sleep....for the love of all maggotry, somebody start posting some pics

Wink How to choose which Summit thread to post in . . .

Well, since this is the day 3 and opening rager section, I guess I'll post my weekend report here . . . so many threads to choose from!

Rolled up to Alpine Meadows on Friday not sure what to expect and ran into the C3 (crazy Canadian contingent), some Mammoth maggots, and much of the Kirkwood crew . . . Skier666 led us around and proved that Alpine is beyond a worthy mountain! There's so much terrain there a mere traverse/sidestep away and we had a great crew exploring it! I had a great day meeting new people and letting them convince me to jump off of something bigger than I ever had, skiing around, and enjoying the new terrain. Conditions were surprisingly good - windbuff, pow, corn - you name it!

Saturday was a great day at Squaw - we literally started with at least 30 maggots, a group which could not survive - we were down to a manageable 8 within 2 runs, with my group being led around by Spats in search of cool things to jump off of and lines to ski - I was definitely humbled by Squaw. I've never given that place the credit it deserves - there are amazing lines EVERYWHERE, it's crazy. And it's huge!!! The afternoon was great - hot as hell, but fun! We hiked the Granite Chief and hung out on top basking in the glory of the Sierras . . . amazing country, really! We had a maggot bash in the parking lot at the end of the day, compliments of Kush and the C3 for beverages, and to everyone for good laughs and recollections of the day! We drove back to South Lake to be graced with the most amazing moonrise I've ever seen - huge, orange, and right over the lake!

Got back at 6:30 and headed to Bob Dog's to meet up with Walter Sobchak, Greydon Clark, Gimpy, and their friend Brandyn to determine details for a tour under said moon . . . I was on the fence as to whether or not the legs had anything left in them after a big day at Squaw, especially cuz I was convinced that conditions would be a terrible bulletproof or breakable cuz it had gotten so hot during the day. But, I decided to go along, and we eventually decided to go to false waterhouse and ski the bowl. Gimpy led the way, running to the top, as always, and we were met with one of the best runs I've ever had. Snow was definitely NOT hard, but boot-deep cream cheesy powder instead, and the run was perfectly illuminated, and fresh . . . incredible turns all the way down in the peace of the moonlight and stillness of the night. We made it back to South Lake in time to hit the party by 11:30 and made it in time to share in some of the debauchery, win some of the prizes, see the pole dances, hear Tuffy's good tunes (though sadly lacking in Madonna and Britney Spears!! ), and hang out for the afterparty at lph's . . . good times to say the least!

Today at Kirkwood was another great day . . . all kinds of snow - corn, windbuff, and everything in between. Great conditions everywhere, and a great crew to enjoy them with! By about noon, a crew of ~20 had formed . . . we actually had 19 people ski Westshore . . . the thing was a mogul run by the end of it! Good times though, and a great energy throughout the day!

Truly one of the best weekends I've had in a long time - great to meet and ski with new people, and get to know some that I briefly met at the Utah mini better, and great to hang out with the regular crew . . . I am amazed at the quality of people this board draws and am so thankful for all the good times!

Glad to hear Summit is going off well. Caught a group of you at KW Sunday morning at chair 10 liftline. At top friend and I were trading turns camcording each others runs and I was set up to ski the little sluffy moguls at Wall center when I noticed your group set up on the cornice above. Friend with cc caught several of you dropping into the unpleasant semi-frozen remains of the previous day's skiing. I managed to quickly whip my digital camera out and take these two images. First image as all were at the brink before dropping. -dave

Second image was after Ty and Mr B. simultaneously dropped then greeted each other with supprise. Another skier then launched a fine air turn off the cornice landing with an explosion of white.

    Talking

    Good times!

Man what a blast of a weekend. Skiing, drinking and getting hammered with a bunch of cool people.

    Condensed report:

    Sat. Squaw
BIG crew + Big ski area = hard to keep together. The crew of 30-40 plus Maggs/Minns broke up into splinter groups after the first run on KT.

Spats led a whole bunch of us to the sunbaked spring stuff, then the splinter crew broke up. I can't remember who was in our. Splat, Mr and Mrs Shoe, Slim, Phunk, Powho, Telenater, Divegirl, Mr and Ms Rehabit, and a bunch of others lapping up Headwall, then Granite Chief, and KT-22. It was so hot on Saturday.

Beers at the parking lot after skiing. Thanks to the East coast crew for the Yuengling.

The Hoss Hogg's party was a blur and I hereby deny everything. Whatever pictures you see are photoshopped by some conspirators out to ruin my good name Lots of people. The Canadian crew (Flanker and co) bought endless shots and were sweet drinking buddies, and also thaks to the Keg providers- lph, Arty and someone else. Memory fails me now! The last thing I remember was knocking over Tuffy's DJ set and getting a well-deserved bitchslap I vaguely remember the lights going out at 2am and a bunch of people were still in there drinking. An after party at lphs for more drinking, drunken lefthanded hockey matches, phunk's mad skeelz on the dartboard, and more alcohol until passing out at 5am.

    Sunday Kirkwood
Rough. Very rough waking up after 3 hours of sleep. But the huge crew showed up at 10:30@10 ans we're off exploring and showing the goods off. I'm not even going to attempt to remmeber who was there. 6/10 laps, then the highlight of the day was a skier666-led OB excursion into West Shore. Insane conditions, fun steeps....good times! Then we checked out heart chute and skied random lines between 6 and 10.

I would like to thank Phunk and Powho for the entertainment. These bastards used my dirty truck as a canvas for their homoerotic graffiti and penis-inspired artwork, and I had to explain to the cute chicks in the nearby SUV that I didn't really "love the cock"
(Mental note: Don't park next to Powho and Phunk!)

Bub's for some beers and then a brutal 8 hour drive to LA after a weekend of skiing, getting hammered, and 3 hours of sleep from Saturday.

Thanks for the good times! See you chumps next weekend.

    Pics to follow.

I enjoyed this weekend a great deal. The party was a good time with FREE beer (Thanks to all involved!) and DJ who kept the honeys on the dance floor, despite his refusal to spin his Universal Order of Armageddon and Beyonce 12"ers. Wish I could have skied with more of you guys, maybe this coming weekend.

    Big perm.

Note of correction- Gimpy didn't lead the charge to the top of Waterhouse, Brandyn the snow-shoeing-not-so-slowboarder stomped all our asses on the up track. Moon light and powder are a winning combination!

heh...yeah that was close....I didn't even see you getting ready to drop as you were kind of behind a few others standing on the ridge between us.

thank god we avoided each other......that collision I had with Kush's friend at the end of the day was definitely enough linebackering for me......

My question is why ski the section without any rocks?
