Steamboat photos

[The AD]

I was at Steamboat from the 17th to the 22nd of February. I brought film cameras, so finally got everything developed, scanned and uploaded. It was a good trip, but the snow could have been better. There was a major dump about a week before we got there, but then things dried out and warmed up drastically by the time we got there. We did get a few inches of fresh, so nice conditions on Friday, 2/20, but otherwise things varied from very hardpacked and somewhat icy, to sloppy in the afternoon. Still, we had a great time.

Here are a couple shots for you. I don't think the Powder magazine photo editor is going to be banging down my door, but there are a few keepers!

OK, that first set were all taken on negative film with my point-and-shoot. Here's a few I shot with my Canon SLR on Provia 100F slide film.

About half my group in the Pioneer Ridge area. The guy with the mouthguard on his helmet is a dentist, and I'm not kidding! I think he likes the fact that the helmet looks totally ridiculous:

holy crap. i just got home at midnight from steamboat. was there from last saturday until yesterday. it dumped huge right when i got there and the whole week kicked freakin' ass!!!

i haven't touched a computer for 9 days and am recovering from the solo 14 hour straight shot home yesterday. i wanted to put up some pics before i try at a trip report

yeah brett, some kind of ski/snowboard rack. that was just some random dude going by as i was taking pics so i don't know what the deal is with it. looked homemade to me.

Hey xboat, thanks for blowing away my pix! Excellent shots. I guess that's what a couple feet of fresh will do. The timing for my trip was all wrong: lots of snow before we got there, lots of snow after we left. That's the way it goes sometimes.

Yes, I'm sure mine would make it into Steamboat's promotional brochure ahead of yours, but we all know that's not necessarily a good thing.

I was only kidding about you stealing my thunder. Your shots look great. wish I could have been there for that! I'll be looking for the TR and more pictures to come.

great pics! Those conditions look pretty damn good to me, but skiing a 400 vert ice hill everyday may have distorted my opinion of what is "good."
