Tarkio - Colin Melloy pre-Decemberists band

They issued a double cd last year that is a compilation of pretty much everything Tarkio ever put out, it's called Omnibus.

I highly recommend checking it out if you like the Decemberists. It has a more rootsy feel, with some songs even having an alt-country feel, and it fucking roolz. Still weird and strange songs with bizarre content, but if you are into the Decemberists, you are probably into the freaky shit.

Anyways, give 'em a listen.

Tarkio rocked, I saw them live quite a bit when I first moved to Missoula. "Helena Won't Get Stoned" is a chorus that pops into my mind at least once a month, and runs pretty well non-stop whenever I visit the town of Helena.

I can't get into the Decemberists, the whole "sea shanty" vibe seems phony to me. I mean, when did Colin Meloy spend years on the open seas anyway? Sheesh.

I like it. His lyrics often blow my mind. Like, how the hell did he come up with that? I think he reads a lot of Dragonlance paperbacks.
