Is MMT ready yet farther out?
I start from The Canyons. Head out under the gondola to the Golden Eagle Lift. (Take service road about 200 yds. to gate. About 100 yards on the right is athe trail head for Holly's Uphill. After you pass under the Super Condor lift, there's a sign for Ambush, Holly's DH and the MMT. From there, you can ride Holly's DH, or the MMT to DV. It's a great ride with a few steepish climbs, and you know how nice the decent is on MDH. I'll prolly do this early tomorrow AM. Tomorrow, if anyone is riding PC, and wants to go for a swim afterwards, you can take a dip at my pool (Sundial Lodge), and have a soda or beer or 3 on me.

    Here's a link to a map:

    Aha. I didn't know there was a Holly's uphill...

I think tomorrow's plan is to ride Round Valley in the am, lunch at Chubasco and then ride Flying Dog.

Sounds like the plan for those riding Round Valley is to meet at my crib in Park Meadows. I'm like a 1 mile ride on pavement to RV. So far it sounds like Josh P, Trady, Phatfree, UTsnow, Altagirl, and myself, but schindler if this works with your schedule you should totally come. That goes for everyone!

I live at 130 Racquet Club (at least for the next week) on Little Kate Road. Wanna meet at 9:45 on Sat morning? Does this work?

I like the idea of just lunch & flying dog... but somehow I think I'll be dragged into doing it all tomorrow

I'm going to try to meet you guys in the AM, unless something comes up. What is the plan...Rail Trail to Round Valley? or...Are you starting at the National Abilities Center?

Wow. How do you ride after eating that salsa at El Chups?

I typically start at the other side of the loop. I forget what the road is called, but its at the back of the Park Meadows neighborhood. Its a really easy fast ride from my house, so I just start the loop there.

And planning on eating chubasco and then heading back out for 20 more miles is aggressive.

Well...our plan was to meet at the National Ability Center at 10:00. UTSG, AG, Bryce Kellogg and I are riding the race course to scope for the 12 hour race, so I figured we'd start at the start.

Re and I are riding the Crest tomorrow at 9am. Just wanted to put it out there, even though most of you already have plans.

...and I hope you aren't mad at us phatfreeheeler! (I've heard the trail looks good)

The PMs I've gotten said to meet at the National Abilities Center at 10am. (Since this is 12hr race prep and that's the start of the course).

I'm open to whatever, but that might be easiest to coordinate.

AC, Re- you know l love you gals.. but phat's not the only one complaining about this plan.... it just seems too early.

in the maggette thread this was posted:
Just saw this post from today on MTBR:

"I actually tried this a week ago. It started out well, but we soon found ourselves trying to get through 7 foot deep snow drifts! It was mostly snow from puke hill all the way to desolation lake. The ride back to the canyon was smooth sailing though!"
i really, really want to ride Crest too, but I think it's better if we give it a bit longer to melt out... rut issues aside, I'd also not want to hike a bike through 7 foot snow drifts..

Please don't rut it up. There are so many other awesome trails in fantastic shape right now. You guys ride that trail as much as anyone and know what a difference there is when the singletrack is nice and buffed or rutted and shitty.

Edit: One of the guys I work with needs to get up to the tower site and said he can't yet because of the snow. If you guys just can't ride anything else, at least commit to turning around if you get to muddy stuff. I know I wouldn't want to do that, but that's why I'm not riding that trail yet.

Sounds good, I'll just ride from my house and then ride down the trail and meet up with you guys. Make sure you ride clockwise from the NAC and you'll just run right into me.

And I seriosuly doubt that the Crest is anywhere near ready. I can see from my house how much snow is still up on the ridegline. I'm sure there are exposed sections that are dry, but there will be a lot of sections that are heavily snowy and muddy. Last year the Crest was BARELY ready in the third week of June, and it was too muddy even then for a little while.

As long as you do as Altagirl said and commit to turning back instead of putting in mud tracks or widening the trail by going around. That's all anyone can expect. For that matter, I'd be impressed because that's being a good trail user. Oh, and PM me the trail conditions. If it's good we don't need the whole world jumping on the band wagon

You do know there are other really good trails in the Wasatch, other than the Crest, right? and many of them are too hot and dusty to enjoy later in the year.

Snowfire rode it last weekend and from what she said, it's totally doable-Mill D is completely dry as well, so I'm not sure why people are saying it's not rideable, especially considering how little snow we got this year. And of course I will try my best not to rut it up, even I wouldn't like that...And yes, I know there are other trails around here, but I've been so excited to ride it, that I'm going to go ride it.

I sure hate feeling so guilty about riding there though, you guys sure know how to lay on a guilt trip.

(also, what's wrong with riding this trail so much anyway? is it really that bad to ride a trail you love that gives you an amazing workout? I'm all about new rides, I'm up for it anytime so don't get me wrong there. I guess I'm just getting super excited about it)

As far as PC goes tomorrow, I can't ride all day. I can do a 2-3 hour ride. I have to watch my neice and nephews after that.

Maybe Re and I can join you guys for that if we decide not to Crest it. At least I could go for a ride in the a.m.

Also, is there anyway you guys would meet earlier in the a.m.? If not, I hope I can still make it if we start around 10am.

Ok - what do you guys think about this -

I know there are a couple of us that want to try to get 2 laps on Round Valley. What if we met at 8:30am at the NAC for the first lap. Anyone that wants to ride later can join us for a 10am lap.

    Followed by lunch

Followed by a 1pm start on Flying Dog.

    Thoughts?

Utsnowgirl- That is the perfect plan. Trady and I will be at the NAC at 8:30.

2 laps at Round Valley, lunch up, and then we go hit the Flying Dog at 1:00, I like it. (AC- if you can only do one ride tomorrow, Flying Dog is the one to do, it fackin rocks, my new fav).

Editors note-I hope I am not pimping the FD too much, but I freaking dig it. I hate when shit gets so hyped up that there is no way it can meet expectation. To be honest though, it is up to the hype.

See some of you at 8:30, and some at 10:00, can you say memorial day weekend kicks ass .

From SLC - take I-80 east - pass Kimball Junction (main PC exit) - take the I-40 exit towards Heber . From there, take the second exit (the first one is silver summit, you want the next one to PC/Kamas). Once you exit, turn right - you'll see a sign for the NAC there. Follow the road all the way up until you reach the horse stables and main building.

Otherwise, if you are on Rte. 224 (Park Ave.), turn onto Kearns. Take it up about 3 miles. (Pass The Eccles Ctr., Middle School, etc.) The NAC will be on the left just before Rte. 40.
