One man's garbage is another man's treasure.![]()
I think you'll like either of those options. John's may not be clear yet, but it's gotta be close. I recommend that one as a descent. I've done it uphill but it kicks your ass.
Get someone to show you Moose; it's a shuttle but really an 'xc' shuttle, although a bigger bike is nice for the down as it has a bunch of log crossings and some steep technical sections (something around 6x6" should be fine). Most of it is foresty twistiness though.
Since none of the Maggettes are in, if anybody's interested in riding the Draper BST tonight I'll be up there around 5:45. Never ridden out that way, so I wanted to check it out, even if it ends up sucking.
Unless you get to shoot guns while you ride that trail, you are lame.
I haven't found too much stuff like W. PA out here. Not too many rockgardens or tight twisty trails with slimy roots and constant turns and ups/downs. Rode Aerie?? the other weekend in PC as part of the prospector loop. I think thats what it was called and it was pretty good, rooty, not really a descent and tight trees in sections.
I think that you'll find some stuff in PC that somewhat resembles real EC riding, but welcome to the land of buff singletrack... As for me I am starting to get used to it.
p.s. if it makes you guys feel any better, I am in the opposite basket. I love my fast open western trails and I get so so so frustrated with the trails out in eastern OH. I just want to open it up and get some speed and flow, but no...there's always a root section, a sharp, un-flowy steep climb or ravine compression, crazy turn through trees too tight to fit your handlebars through, etc. And I have no idea where I am, where I've been, or where I'm going b/c of all the fockin trees. It's driving me nuts! But it gives me new and different bike skills so that part's fun. I am learning to appreciate the riding out here, I'm sure you will too in Utah.
Really nice early season ride today. ...Molly's uphill to Rosebuds Heaven (Bob's Trail); back to Molly's uphill; to Ambush; to the Sun Peak lift; to Holly's downhill.
Ran in to loose rocks in a few places. Wet trail and a tiny bit of snow up near the lift, but, for the most part, dry and stable.
I wiped out a couple times (damned switchbacks). Saw a fox, beaver, chipmunk, many moose prints and shit. I found a Rossignol RS snowboard, broken in 1/2 (no binders).
Time for the hot tub and some rays!

Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.
The amount of riding in UT is rediculous. There are so many trails in the SLC valley/PC/moab/st george area that you can never get bored. I know in the NW PA I was often times wishing there was new stuff to ride in my backyard even though I was building trails too.
to be honest I am scared shitless of pipeline on several parts due to sheer drops on the side of the trail although its not really hard to ride at all.
I also get scared going really fast on a bike, it feel like i cant stop quick enough. Cant wait to ride out here this year.
FYI I have a 5 inch travel haro that will be upgraded in the fork/shock department this summer. teh nup graded with a bigger bike after that.
The cliff on porcupine and lps has finally quit calling my name....it was trying to get me to fall off of it.
I would be happy to show you around mang, just send me a PM
Edit: Oh yeah, Britt (demolition woman) rode off the side of pipeline on one of the big drop off sections when she got going too fast. Only damage after 3-4 tumbles while still clipped in to her bike was a nice chainring scar. It's not that bad. You do stop

JoshP and I are meeting at the Deer Valley base area at 6pm tomorrow (thursday) at 6pm to ride the Spin Cycle for those of you interested in checking it out. Gonna be sweeet. You should be there.
Moose clearing session tonight:

What is Moose like (dh trail?) and where is it exactly?
It's a cross-country shuttle. I'd hesitate to call it a dh, although it kind of is. You basically have a 20-minute uphill ride/steepass hike-a-bike up to the radio towers at the top of Parley's summit. Then traverse a while on a trail that I'm pretty sure is part of Great Western trail, then drop into Moose. It's tight, twisty, overgrown forest. Fun stuff. LOTS of logs to ride over. I mean lots. A few fun short steeps, no real drops except a couple little rocks to hop over. It's kind of an adventure ride. Some people love it, some hate it. I'd never bring a real DH bike on the ride, something around 5-6" is ideal. The Stinky would be perfect, go check it out! If they do the ride next week I may give it a shot.
My 'xc' bike is a Jamis that is 6x6, would that be better? Where does the trail come out? Thanks fer da info.
Either bike would work fine, honestly. The extra clearance on the Stinky might be nice for the log crossings. The trail dumps out on East Canyon road just below Mountain Dell golf course.
