i haven't read through all the threads, but I have to ask what's the big deal with NYC? The people all seem like assholes, I have only been to NYC once and wasn't very impressed, that place and many big cities are fuckin dirty!! All i know is from just interacting with pompous new yorkers visiting ski towns is they seem like douche-bags and make me not ever want to return. Go ahead and blast away, but I'm sure anyone who has lived in a ski town long enough will tell you new yorkers are asses. They visit a place and act like they own it. FUCK THEM AND FUCK NEW YORK, yall can have it.

Christchurch, a city? Maybe compared to SLC, but please....

With the exception of Santiago, none of the antipodal cities are near decent skiing (Mt Buller doesn't count).

How about Mendoza? 3 hour drive to world class skiing, gooooood wine, and the Andes. Guess I could deal with it

Oh, it'd definitely be better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, but it comes short in 2 measures for me: 1) diversity of cuisine (diverse for Argentina, but still not that diverse) 2) direct flights to other destinations, particularly international.

I don't understand cj, Buller rocks. No, if you live in Oz you have to travel OS for snow. That said Japan is cheap and close and it is easy enough to do 4 weeks there in Jan. Get 30 quality days in summer, and maybe a week in NZ in the winter too.

I still think Europe has it over North America, at least from a foreigner's perspective. The culture and history are much more interesting than US/Canada. Better beer.

As much as I love visiting Asia, I doubt I could live there. Although I clash with every culture, I think there are more things in SE Asia, China and Japan that would frustrate me too much. I could do a year, maybe two max.

Nothing really its only the financial capital of the world and probably one of the top two or three of the world's cultural centers. But you are right, can't imagine why 8+ million people would want to live here.

Newton has the wings, chief. Buffs Pub.
And Boston is small--when you can drive 10 miles from downtown and be in the middle of the woods, its a small city.

10 miles puts you at about 128, that's not exactly the middle of the woods.

Dexter has some wing place in Waltham, I can't remember the name, he swears it's the best ever. And since my boy is a Grade-A carnivore, I'm not inclined to doubt him much.

Wings Express, Moody Street, Waltham. 498-WING. I wouldn't order the meltdown, although I did watch in amazement one time as a guy put away twenty of them, didn't take a sip of water, and just left.
And we've done plenty of research trying to find a place that matches Wings Express--Boston has a number of good places (no place in NYC matches Boston's second best) but WE is the best.

And Waltham 15 years ago was a hole--the city that God forgot, as I used to say. I'm pretty sure the water there still makes you retarded, literally.

I'm Irish Catholic, what do you think?

I used to work at Wing It at UMass-Amherst back in the day and then they opened up the Brighton shop after college and I delivered wings while I looked for a "real" job. Not sayin' they're the best but my roommates and I ate a TON of wings back then, a TON.
St Patty's in Boston this weekend is like Mardi Gras for Micks.

Wing It was usually our second favorite. My friends and I always bring wings back from Boston, and one time a guy couldn't make it to Waltham so he tried to fool us by bringing Wing It instead. He had us going for a few bites, until we could tell just by the looks on each others' faces that we were all suspicious. Of course we still enjoyed them, but the guy never tried to pull that one again.

    Don't forget Caspah.

I think years ago when Boston Magazine included a wings category in its 'best of' issue Waltham was #1, with Wing It #2.

There's an old couple in bed. Mary and Paddy. And they wake up on the morning their... fiftieth anniversary. And Mary looks over and gazes adoringly at Paddy, she's like, "Aw, Jesus, Paddy. You're such a good lookin' feller. I love you. I want to give you a little present. Anything your little heart desires, I'm going to give it to ya'. What would you like?" And Paddy's like, "Aw, gee, Mary, that's a very sweet offer. Now, in fifty years, there's one thing that's been missing. And uh... I would like you to give me a blow job. I would like that." And Mary's like, "All right." She takes her teeth out, puts them in the glass and she gives him a blow job. And afterwards, Paddy's like, "Ah, geez, now THAT's what I've been missin'. That was the most beautiful, Earth-shatterin' thing ever. Beautiful Mary, I love ya'! Is there anything that I can do for you?" And Mary looks up at him and she goes, "Give us a kiss!"

    What, why not Brian-y?

I like Boston, especially when the Mild/Basom show (with special appearance by Vinz Clortho) take you on a booze cruise of the Bean, but Seattle > Boston in pretty much every way except Italian food. Also on the water, much closer to much better skiing, much closer to wilderness, two mountain ranges to play in.... and hey - drunk Indians! Who doesn't like them?

Sorry, Ice. I'm not crapping on your home, just opining.

Odd that there's only been one mention of Calgary. That place is really cool, actually.
