Red face The "They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To" Thread

    Metalica:

    For Whom the Bell Tolls

Make his fight on the hill in the early day
    Constant chill deep inside
Shouting gun, on they run through the endless grey
On the fight, for they are right, yes, by whos to say?
For a hill men would kill, why? they do not know
Suffered wounds test there their pride
Men of five, still alive through the raging glow
Gone insane from the pain that they surely know
    [chorus:]
    For whom the bell tolls
    Time marches on
    For whom the bell tolls

Take a look to the sky just before you die
It is the last time you will
Blackened roar massive roar fills the crumbling sky
Shattered goal fills his soul with a ruthless cry
Stranger now, are his eyes, to this mystery
He hears the silence so loud
Crack of dawn, all is gone except the will to be
Now they will see what will be, blinded eyes to see
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring."

    You're right

    Blackened is the End
    Winter it will send
    Throwing all you see
    Into obscurity

    Death of Mother Earth
    Never a rebirth
    Evolution's end
    Never will it mend

    Never...!

    FIRE
To begin whipping Dance of the Dead,
    Blackened--is the--End!
To begin whipping Dance of the Dead,
    Color our world Blackened!

    Blistering of Earth
    Terminate its worth
    Deadly Nicotine
    Kills what might have been

    Callous frigid chill
    Nothing left to kill
    Never seen before
    Breathing nevermore

    Never...!

    FIRE
To begin whipping Dance of the Dead,
    Blackened--is the--End!
To begin whipping Dance of the Dead,
    Color our world Blackened!

    BLACKENED.

    Opposition (opposition)...Contradiction (contradiction)...Premonition (premonition)...Compromise
    Agitation (agitation)...Violation (violation)...Mutilation (mutilation)...Planet Dies
    Darkest Color,
    Blistered Earth,
    True Death of Life.
    Termination (termination)....Expiration (expiration)...Cancellation (cancellation)...Human Race
    Expectation (expectation)...Liberation (liberation)...Population (population)...Lay to Waste
    See our Mother
    Put to death
    See our Mother die

    Smouldering decay
    Take your breath away
    Millions of our years
    In minutes disappears

    Darkening in vain
    Decadence remains
    All is said and done
    Never is the sun

    Never...!

    FIRE
To begin whipping Dance of the Dead,
    Blackened--is the--end!
To begin whipping Dance of the Dead....
    FIRE
    Is the outcome of hypocrisy,
    Darkest--poten-CY!
    In the exit of hu-ma-ni-ty,
    Color our world Blackened!

    BLACKENED.

Metallica was good, yes. But no match for the mighty:

    SLAYER

    Evil Has No Boundaries

Blasting our way through the boundaries of Hell
No one can stop us tonight
We take on the world with hatred inside
    Mayhem the reason we fight
Surviving the slaughters and killing we've lost
Then we return from the dead
Attacking once more now with twice as much strength
We conquer then move on ahead

    [Chorus:]
    Evil
    My words defy
    Evil
    Has no disguise
    Evil
    Will take your soul
    Evil
    My wrath unfolds

Satan our master in evil mayhem
Guides us with every first step
Our axes are growing with power and fury
    Soon there'll be nothingness left
Midnight has come and the leathers strapped on
    Evil is at our command
We clash with God's angel and conquer new souls
    Consuming all that we can

    [Chorus]

For cereal? Kick ass man. That's like seeing Hendrix at Woodstock.

And Atomicboy, your penance was more than adequate. Gotta love the classic Slayer widdily widdily solos, young Araya screams and shitty shitty mixing.
    Fuck yeah!

I was going to mention Slayer, but they DO make them like they used to.

    Excerpt from "New Faith"

I keep the bible in a pool of blood
So that none of its lies can affect me.

    Except from "Sex, Murder, Art"

    Shackled
    My princess
    Dangling in distress
    Here
    To discipline
    My sole purpose never ends
    Bleeding
    On your knees
My satisfaction is what I need
    The urge
    To take my fist
    And violate every oriface

    You're nothing
    An object of animation
    A subjective mannequin
    Beaten into submission
    Raping again and again

    And my personal favorite "213"

    Erotic sensations tingle my spine
A dead body lying next to mine
    Smooth blue black lips
I start salivating as we kiss
    Mine forever this sweet death
I cannot forget your soft breaths
Panting excitedly with my hands around your neck

Well... I wouldn't go that far. However, they do a better facsimile than anything Metallica has done in years.

New question. Who has kept the flame going?

Slayer has to be in the top 3 or 4. Christ Illusion (2006) is a total old-school Slayer throw back music with contemporary lyrics.

Throwback to Divine Intervention, yes. Throwback to old-school Slayer, a la Show No Mercy, Hell Awaits and Haunting the Chapel, not so much.

But yeah, they've done a good job keeping it real.
