Insight on Smith Turbo Goggle Fit

Search didn't give me the info I crave so I thought I would give this a shot.

Last year I got some goggles w/an prescription insert so I would have a clue as to where I was skiing. So far I like them much better than OTG.

Except they don't vent for shit and when it is warmer, snowing or raining they fog up like crazy and I'm facked.

I know there are a number of Smith Prodigy Turbo wearers out there who seem to think highly of them.

    So the questions?

They have three turbo fan models Phenom, Prodigy, Knowledge. No local shop seems to stock them even in the non-turbo version so I can size them up. Can anyone give me an idea about how they fit? Is the prodigy big enough for someone who wears an XL? Is the Knowledge, which they bill as a large fit, laugh out loud large?

Anyone other than Smith make a goggle with a battery operated fan system worth considering?

Does anyone use anyone of these with a Smith "ODS" (Optical Docking System). That is you perscription lense cliped inside the goggle with a gadget marketed by Smith for that purchase.

    Appreciate any thoughts.
Damn, we're in a tight spot!

I have a megamelon and use my turbo Prodigys OTG. I'd like to get the docking system except I'd have to carry a pair of glasses around with me too and I'm sure I'd wreck and crush them. Also, I keep forgettiing to get it.

Fit-wise and vision-wise I have no probs with my Prodigys.

Or should that be "Prodigies"? "Prodigy" is the product name, so do you just add an "s" or do you change it to "ies"?

    But I digress.

my head is large and I ski in wet, foggy weather alot. I highly reccomend the smith turbo. I think the prodigy is your best bet. the phenom are small for glasses and Id worry the knowledge is a bit flimsy in a crash with glasses. make sure you get the newer battery pack which is a sturdier design and more compact, 1 battery instead of 2.

The Knowledge is not *that* large and it's the only one they call an OTG. I wear a large helmet but my face is not that large and the knowledge is just a hair big on me - basically a pretty good fit; not laugh-out-loud large. My glasses do hit the lens even in the Knowledge so I wonder how the Prodigy works. I think the docking system would be great with the prodigy or the knowledge but I don't have it.

Thanks for the input. It looks like the prodigy would do the job especially because I'll probably go w/the ODS.

Funny about crushing the eyewear while skiing. I've got a crush proof case that works just fine but it bruised the shit out of my ribs a couple of times before I got smart enough to switch pockets.

I'm really blind, like -9.0R and -10.0L, and can barely scratch my bum without a prescription optical device in place. Tried the Bolle, with the docking station, and did not like it at all. I believe part of the issue related to the optician not correcting the prescription due to the lenses being further from my eye surface, as opposed to glasses. The lenses were also huge and heavy, and with my degree of vision impairment, I had to keep a set of regular glasses with me for trips to the lodge, etc.

Tried every kind of anti-fog sold, with only marginal effectiveness. In the end, a bit of bar soap, crayoned on, and buffed off, without water, worked as well as anything. Do this to your glasses, not the goggle lenses.

My biggest salvation came in buying the smallest, from a lens width and height standpoint, glasses I could stand, in extra high index of refraction plastic. They allow better airflow between my eyes and the glasses, and the thinner plastic means less mass that has to be temperature adjusted.

Zenninoptical.com is your friend if you want to try some cheap glasses options. Avoid the no frame and half frame types, and stick with the 100% rimmed stainless or titanium selections. Prescription sunglasses are a nice option for warmer days, and cheaper than another pair of premium goggles.

the smith turbo fan system is a piece of shit if you plan on spending time in any conditions which include blowing snow. the snow will enter through the turbo fan vent every time it is oriented appropriately and coat the inside of your goggles with a lovely layer of ice making vision tenuous at best.

the new power module seems to be an improvement over the old one which works only intermitently after extended use.

problems with these goggles can be remedied by removing vent cover, stuffing underside of vent cover with...whatever, replacing vent cover (and applying super glue), and cutting off the power module/fan assembly and throwing it in the trash con fuerza. if you still have problems (ie. between the lenses fogging) replace the turbo fan lens with a standard prodigy/phenom lens and they should provide you with years of excellent performance.

can't comment on their performance while wearing eyeglasses
