    Paging Vinman

Hey Vinman, my turn. Minor stuff but I had a 70 lb dog plow me in the side of the knee yesterday. Hurt some but subsided at first but got worse through the day. Gets stiff and really prone to giving sharp pain especially on down sloped terrain.

My first thought was meniscus pinched and inflamed but I've found a wee bit of point tenderness on the medial side somewhat anterior on the tibial head (plateau). So now I'm guessing a bit of strain to the MCL. Long dog walk on uneven terrain this morning and it actually feels better now, no swelling or bogginess. I'm Icing but clearly not so good on the resting.

Minor strain to MCL? I'm supposed to ski tomorrow guiding about some lower end folk so should be able to take it easy. I'm hoping wrapping it some will stabilize it a bit too. No instability and no real catching like folded over meniscus.

When I sprained my knee (MCL) a few years ago... it felt sort of wobbly at times...

Wear a knee-brace (or a band) if you're skiing tomorrow.

Ski safe, and hope it's nothing more.

if the knee was planted when the pup hit you on the outside of the knee, I would surmise (sp?) MCL sprain. If you have pain on the lateral side with this type of impact I would say meniscus. But the lack of boggy swelling/effusion would lead more toward MCL.

ICE, ICE, ICE for the first 72 hrs. If it is feeling unstable or begins to click have an ortho take a look.

Thanks vinman. Went skiing, didn't get time to tape. It felt fine on skis even pushing a bit. DID NOT like walking in the ski boots but still feels a bit better today, not worse so that's the important thing.

The foot was pretty planted and I tried to lift it as he came in. I was standing half twisted or just turning so the whole hit was funny.

Maybe I could train my dog to herd the big ones away instead of running to me for safety when the play gets rough and the other one has 20 or 30 lbs on her. Double black diamond dog park.

glad things are going well. The twisting part of that ha me thinking a bit more about your meniscus. If things don't get better get it looked at.
