Prrrrrrr....
Shit, we just got back from the Benson Hut, didn't expect to see this, I was just gonna call you to try and get together in SF this weekend......heal up fast H!
Ouch. I saw helo extraction and got really concerned. It sounds rough, but I'm glad its not worse. That reminds me I need to renew my helicopter insurance.
I can't be much help on the South Shore, but if there's anything you need from the Bay Area, PM me 666.
get better
hope the op goes well
Thanks for all the vibes, I know Halle and I really appreciate it. She's in surgery now, so I figured I'd check to see if there's wifi....click. There is.
Here's the word. The really bummer is that she basically fell at the exit of the chute. She slayed the whole chute, which was awesome mid-winter packed pow, and as she made the last turn to exit, to then take the left-hander to the traverse out, she caught a tail and did a roll. She tried to get her feet underneath her body, but the snow changed to a very firm windpack surface, and momentum was gained. I think the injury happened when her right ski popped off as she tumbled on the firm pack. Both skis released, and then she went for slide to the lake. The good news is that her ankle is the only injury. Also, the good thing about where she fell is that there was absolutely nothing for her to run into. The injury was solely from the force/tweak of her ski releasing. Would it have been better for the skis to stay on? Don't know, but I have a feeling that if her bindings were cranked, we'd have more chances of knee injury etc.
Big thanks to Greydon, Walter, Ty, Mrs. Ty and the Kirkwood ski patrol for coming over, even in the immediate sidecountry to help us out. It sucked to have an old friend on patrol to see Halle injured, but its nice to see familiar people in that situation.
Perfect weather, people, and cell service made the recovery absolutely perfect. Her leg was elevated immediately after injury and up until surgery. Since we were in Alpine county, the easiest scenerio was for the CHP to fly right down to the lake and pick her up. Another props to the CHP, they were awesome. All in all, after injury she was at the hospital in two hours. I could not imagine a better scenerio.
The ankle joint is crushed, etc so PM's coming soon from the Mrs. to the people who've had similar injuries. Surgeon says they need to fix, reshape, and pin/plate together the area. She's been heavily sedated on Morphine as gimpy stated, so she's been resting comfortably the whole time.![]()
Biggest props goes to my wife for barely showing signs of a headache let alone mangled bone/fractures. She's a trooper and she'll be up and running ASAP.
.....I've got pics of the area/chopper and her upper turns. I'll post those up at a later date when things mellow out.
Thanks again guys,
Casey

thanks for the update buddy.
i'm real glad to know she fell at the end of that thing instead of all the way down it.
it may be more filled in now. but still. this is just the bottom half.
looking back up at the bottom section, after the nasty rollover.

So sorry to hear. So glad she survived.
She prolly won't be missing much.
With all this sun, the snow might not last much longer.

Fuck man. I'm bummed to hear about her injury. Glad to hear she was, and still is, in good hands and that she's gonna be cool, considering that this is the place that has the potential to fuck up more than an ankle.
Get well soon Halle. you fuckin rule.
Lph has a sick office/setup here.....just fyi![]()
He showed me the xray/scans...and she broke a couple bones above/around the joint as if the foot got pushed up into the area.
In those photos, imagine that crux filled in, and no obstacles below. She fell right when the rocks ended and slid all the way to the lake.

Hey, it may be small, but I still get to use the coolest toys in the hospital.![]()
It is a bad break, but H is in good hands. Spoke to the surgeon and explained that 666 and mrs. 666 were EXTREME skiers and that they go to New Zealand every year to EXTREME ski. I impressed upon him their need to continue their EXTREME lifestyle.
He said, "She'll be back."
That was good enough for me.

That is a proud line.

Tahoe Maggots
Spend the $45 or $50 a year to buy the membership with REMSA or CALSTAR.
If you get seriously hurt and are flown out by anything other than CHP you're looking at a $15,000 bill. Most of the providers in California, Oregon, Nevada, and Idaho are reciprocal partners. So if you're skiing out of Portland, Bend, Seattle, Tahoe, or even Shasta you won't pay a cent out of pocket.
That sux. Hope everything turns out well.
Did they have to cut the boot off? Can't imagine getting a broken ankle out of a ski boot.

++++++++VIBES TO THE 666 FAMILY! Good to hear everything worked out really smoothly and the road to recovery started without a hitch. Much love.

If it was going to happen anywhere, then thats a proud line for sure. Take care of the Mrs. Mr. so she can shred it next year. ++++++++++++vibes++++++++++
