    Joint Line Pain

Hi guys, I had surgery on December 28th for a torn ACL and a torn medial meniscus, which they chose to repair. I was on crutches for four weeks with no weight allowed on my foot. After that I progressed well through rehab and am currently about 10 weeks out. I've moved on to light weight lifting with my legs and the elliptical machine. All seems to be going well though I'm a little nervous about some joint line pain on the inside of my knee. I know this is normal with a meniscus repair, but I'm curious as to how long I can expect it to last. It's generally mild, however it's enough to make me nervous. There's not a lot of swelling left in my knee, and what is left resides on the outside of it, not on the inside where I'm expreriencing the pain.

I'm not worried about the ACL at all, as I had the ACL done on my other knee two years ago with no problems. I know exactly how that should go, but this meniscus repair freaks me out.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

How did they repair the meniscus? Suture repairs work pretty well. Barbs, staples, and the like work like a lead baloon. If a suture repair was done, it probably will work out ok. If it was othewise, I would talk with my doctor.

They did use a suture repair for the procedure, so I guess that's a good thing! That being said, any idea for how long I can expect the pain on the joint line to last? I'm just curious because since I've never done this surgery before I don't really have a timetable for how my knee should be feeling at various points during rehab.

From one Mark to another, thanks for the input Dr. Mark!

I only do suture repairs so I am confident about them. I have had several compaining until about 6 months, but I stood fast and didn't reoperate-and they all became asymptomatic.
So far we have not had to take out a knee cartlage after meniscal repair in association with ACL work.
