No reason for feeling bad. Just increase your resolve to make a change.
The half-way point is this Saturday, May 12th. Don't let the discipline slide!!!
I'm at 186 as of this morning. While the weight isn't coming off as fast as I'd hoped, I'm making really good gains in my run and bike times. Ran 8 miles yesterday in 70 minutes. Today is my 25 miles time-trial and I am shooting to do it in 70-72 minutes.

i hit another plateau. last friday i was still at 176.4. i guess it might be due to my workouts being a bit less intense than before last week caused by an injury...but i dont know. ive been trying to eat better also, but i think my late-night dinner schedule is really whats causing the slow results. but i got that heart rate watch on SAC yesterday, so ill be able to see if my workouts are at the right intensity level also.
i did break the 14k goal last week. so im happy about that. 14090 last friday and 14279 last night. so im psyched about that.
way to go everyone! keep it up.

How can you not lose weight with recipes like this:
Tuna Shake
Consume a Tuna Shake consisting of 1 to 1.5 cups V-8 Juice, 2 tbs chopped onion, 2 tbs cilantro, juice from 2 lemons or limes, 6oz can of drained tuna packed in water. Put all ingredients into a blender and mix until smooth.
I've also hit a plateau.
I'll have to check out 3rd power. I like the way the trainers look, esp. brother in the front row... inspirational!

Whew! It would be a financial sacrifice, but I would be motivated to go train!

I'm just a simple girl trying to make my way in the universe...
I come up hard, baby but now I'm cool I didn't make it, sugar playin' by the rules
If you know your history, then you would know where you coming from, then you wouldn't have to ask me, who the heck do I think I am.
Weigh in tomorrow morning. Probably down about 20 lbs. from the start but we'll see tomorrow. I've been watching what I eat real close and trying to get a lot more exercise in but the 5 moth old sometimes makes it hard. Heading in the right direction though.
How's everyone else doing?
I lost over 13 REAL pounds since my first post on here, with 5 more to go.
The last ten days in peru were obscene...50 hours or more in the saddle, eating light. Excellent!

177.5 this morning. Down 21.5 since the start.
184.6 on Saturday morning. Sunday, I ran 8 miles in just over 70 minutes. It was a good day.

I still weigh 130 - haven't lost any more weight in a long time. Maybe this is where I need to be.
I'm climbing again and that means I need a lot of calories on some days. Before I was mostly cutting out the legumes and grains becuase they make me binge. I must be some kind of carb addict.I can't stop eating a bag of chips, that's for sure. Anyway, I am trying to bring whole grains and potatoes and legumes back into my meals, but it's really scary becuase it distorts my hunger and I'll eat til I'm bloated. I heard that fat gives out a satiety indicator, but carbs won't ever do that, your stomach has to actually feel stretched out before you'll feel done eating. I think that's what made me gain weight before.

may i suggest sunflower seeds? roasted or raw, but unsalted and still in their shells. http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?t...dspice&dbid=57 they are incredibly good for you, relatively low in calories compared to other nuts. pumpkin seeds are also really good for you, but more of a pain to shell.
i have the same problem with not feeling full, but i found that snacking on baby carrots really fills you up. and theyre much better for you than chips. i have nothing against carbs, im just not a big fan of chips as a snack. another idea is to get some thick crusty bread and put some healthy fruit spread (black currant is really good for you too) and snack on that if youre craving carbs.
i dont think its any particular thing that makes you feel full, i mean if you eat fat vs carbs vs protein. its just a matter of your brain registering that you are full. eat slower maybe? drink lots of water while you eat to fill up your stomach?

... may I suggest a so-called Ketogenic diet? ... If you are very sensitive to carbs, or prone to binging on carbs (I know I am extremely sensitive), a keto diet is great. I've been on and off one several times, once even while preparing for a bodybuilding competition.
You practically don't eat ANY carbs at all. The only carbs allowed are veggies, and no more than 30-50grams, depending on your body. You get the bulk of your calories from FAT (yes, FAT!) and the rest from protein.
65-75% fat
20-30% protein
~5% carbs
Now I know eveyrbody here is going to go ballistic on me telling me that a diet so rich in fats cannot possibly be healthy. All I'm going to say is, it is healthy. It is proven healthy (lots of research, specifically with regards to its application to control epileptic attacks), I have been on it myself for long periods at a time with regular blood-work done and had never had better blood lipids, and it just works.
At *LEAST* 50% of the fat calories should come from unsaturated fats (fish, fish oils, vegetable oils, etc.), but do not be afraid of saturated fats which are the foundation of a lot of our hormones.
A sample day in my diet used to look like this:
Breakfast:
3-4 slices of bacon
2 eggs whole
2 eggs, whites
Snack:
Cheese sticks
Lecithin, 3 tablesppons
Fishoil
Lunch:
Salmon filet
Veggies (2-3 servings)
Cheese
Snack:
Cheese sticks
Dinner:
Salad w/ lots of olive oil, cheese/feta cheese, lecithin, and grains (sunflower seeds, etc).
There's more to this diet so obviously do some research before jumping on it if you are interest. I'll tell you all about it this weekend mir ... although you didn't look like you needed a diet at all this past weekend.

1000 calories/ day for a 300lb man is insane.
Eat more healty food, lose weight faster.
And Yes, I read your blog.
Interesting.
I think I'm gonna keep eating my breakfast fruit though. Loaded with nutrition and it doesn't disagree with me the way grains do.
I'm not looking for a diet. I'm looking for a way of eating for the long term and trying to figure out what foods are right for me and what foods are not.
Seems like every body type is different. Brett can hardly stand to eat much fat and I just thrive on it. Like half my calories. He'll just want to eat a bowl of pasta (like last Friday) and be fine. But I don't feel well with it.

I've been checking this thread from time to time but felt I didn't need to sign up as I'd successfully lost 10lbs between Christmas and March in an effort to bring my blood pressure down. It worked and I was 144 lbs, feeling fit with still enough curves to keep Roo happy.
I have been good at keeping it off until the last month. I'm in the last few months of writing up my PhD thesis and I'm at my desk for 11 hours a day at the moment. I'm trying to maintain my fitness with 2-3 runs a week but a big problem is nibbling at my desk. I'm sticking to nuts, fruits and dried fruit (hence my mango obsession) but I'm getting through a lot of it. I don't know if this is an issue but I'm also cooking less (one of my loves) because I'm not getting home from work until 9.30-10.00 at night.
I've gained three pounds since March and I'm worried this wil slowly creep up on me. Some of the advice in thread is great and I would really appreciate the support if I'm allowed to be a late applicant. It's more about not deteriorating than losing tons (Roo gets upset if the boobs disappear).
If I'm allowed, I'll add my weight and vital statistics for all to see, publicly.... gulp.
Monty Python's version of the cougar phenomenon:
"This is a frightened city. Over these houses, over these streets hangs a pall of fear. Fear of a new kind of violence which is terrorizing the city. Yes, gangs of old ladies attacking defenseless, fit young men".
I tried Quinoa(Keen-Wa) today. This stuff is an easy to cook and tasty rice replacement.
Some Quinoa facts:
Quinoa contains more protein than any other grain; an average of 16.2 percent, compared with 7.5 percent for rice, 9.9 percent for millet, and 14 percent for wheat. Some varieties of quinoa are more than 20 percent protein.
Quinoa's protein is of an unusually high quality. It is a complete protein, with an essential amino acid balance close to the ideal ... similar to milk!
Quinoa's protein is high in lysine, methionine and cystine. This makes it an excellent food to combine with, and boost the protein value of, other grains (which are low in lysine), or soy (which is low in methionine and cystine).
