So I went away last week on a 4 day cat skiing trip to Chatter Creek Lodge.
    http://tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82283

The food there is incredible. Gourmet 3 course dinners, great buffet breakfast, fantastic sandwiches and cookies for lunch and amazing appies post skiing. Not to mention all the booze.

I didn't hold back out there either, since I'd been looking forward to the trip for nearly a year. I endulged in everything they threw in front of me. I did keep it within reason for breakfast, lunch and appies though which took some will power. As my 4 day bar tab can attest, I didn't really check myself at the bar. Partied every night with the staff and had a grand old time.

Anyway, the morning I left I weighed in at 189, the day I got back I stepped on the scale and it read 197! That quickly leveled off at 191 after 2 days though, I guess water weight? High sodium food? I dunno. Since I got back, I'm back on track and losing. Weighed in at 190 this morning and heading down.

The sparkpeople.com website's been fantastic for me. It's really helping me figure out what it is I'm eating. I've never really paid attention before and I can see now why it is I'm overweight to begin with. Portion control and boredom eating were easily my biggest problems. I don't plan on logging what I eat forever, but I will keep it up until I reach my goal and feel confident that I can manage my eating without it. I figure, once I'm happy with my weight I'll establish a range of 5lbs. and always aim to be in that range. I'm not eating anything all that different than I did before, just more reasonable portions so I don't think it should be that hard.

I can avoid sweets, I can usually avoid salty snacks - but portion control is a huge issue for me. When I get good food like new haven pizza, I like to eat A LOT of it..

and yeah, I was just talking about boredom eating to my wife last night. We were driving back from vermont and I told her that I had a habitually-created desire to pull off, grab something to eat, and pull back on again - because it was something to do to pass the time, break of the trip..

so yeah.. portion control, and boredom eating.

PS 304 this morning - a little dissapointed with that result. I definitely wanted to be under 300 by today. Still, I can't be too angry with 1 pound per day.

Another pound off, down to 133. I feel pretty good.

Fitday reports say I'm averaging 2100 calories per day. I'm gonna stick with that because it feels good and I'm getting plenty to eat, but I wonder when the weight loss will stop. I read somewhere that primitive tribes today, like in New Zealand, eat around 2200 and they are trim and obviously have an active lifestyle. But that includes the men. But I am outside in the mountains which is more demanding than warmer, lower places. So I dunno.

    251.5 - thats 18.5 lbs since 3/12.

I didn't really "diet" when i was in utah. I just tried to be reasonable with what i ate and drank. I probably kept it between 1800 and 2500 calories a day and drank 2-4 beers a day

reminder - second weigh-in is this thursday!

I've set a project for myself - it's called "340 to 3:40 in 2007." I started out at 340 lbs. My very-difficult-but-possible goal is to run the philadelphia marathon in 3:40.

!!! Holy fucking shit, steve. That's an aggressive but worthy goal! Should put you 10 minutes off Boston qualifying time for your age group.

    ps- when is philly again?

mountaingirl1961, a bunch of folks here are using the fitday site, with great results.

Another poster here brought sparkpeople.com to our attention, and I'm using that site. I just can't say enough good things about it. Seems to be a perfect mesh for me, and I've learned tubs about portion control (my stumbling block).

Congrats on the slenderizing -- gotta love when you fit back into those "skinny clothes"...

I'm not to that point yet, but I have 'em on display to remind me.

I've already lost because I haven't done jack shit yet...that said, I think I just might be ready to start pushing myself.

I saw a guy that I haven't seen in about 5 years last night at the theater. He used to be this really lean guy that loved the outdoors. Then came world of warcraft. The dude was huge...I found out that all he does is sits around anymore. I don't want to be that guy. While I utterly despise working out, I would rather do that, than become him.

yeah, 3:40 is impossible for a 300-lb guy at any height, but for a 6'6" 225 lb guy, it actually doesn't seem super-aggressive..

Boston qualifying time for me would be 3:10:59..

Alas, if cookies were my problem. My problem is my addiction to fast food. Perhaps I should rent that supersize me film or something to scare the fast food outa me.

You should. I watched it over a year ago and was sick to my stomach watching it...that might just cure you're need to have it all the time. Good flick.

I read fast food nation and watched supersize me in the same month - june 2004 - and I haven't eaten at McDs, BK, Wendys, etc., ever since.

then again, who knows what I would do if I were put under the kind of emotional stress of shmoesmith.

i cant say it will scare it out of you, but might definitely make you think about what youre putting into your body.

are you addicted to it because you like the taste or because its fast and convenient?

Up .5 pound from my last weigh-in. This makes sense to me, since I've strayed from my goal calories, and exercise, several times this week.

Today's project is to find my tape measure, do some measuring, and start tracking those numbers.

One workaround for the fast food habit would be to enlist a friend to cook a batch of something healthy for you -- say, a crockpot full of soup, or some sort of healthy casserole -- and have that ready to go into the microwave at home. This serves several purposes: it's fast, easy, and a no-brainer for you; it is healthier than the fast food; and it lets other people care for you and express their love and support, which in turn feeds them in a certain way. Corny as that may sound.

yeah, I was up a bit too after easter.
I resolved to get back to where I was quickly, so yesterday not only did I run 3 very hard miles, I also fasted.

makes for some gnarly headrushes later in the PM.. (:

But this morning I was back to where I was Sunday Morning. woot.

I was also up some after Easter. Damn those little chocolate bunnies. They look so innocent, but are so evil....

I ran 6 yesterday and another 5 today. I managed to knock another full minute off my 5 mile time. I looked at my max speed during the run and was shocked to see that it was a 4:57 mile pace. I imagine that was for about 10 feet though. Overall average was 8:43 per mile.

Weigh-in = 193.4. My goal for Thursday's weigh-in is 191 or so. I think I can drop two pounds by then.

Sounds like many of the folks in the challenge are doing really well. I am psyched!

    i hit a plateau.

this sucks. 304-305 since Sunday. I was getting off on daily improvement, and hoping (expecting) to be under 300 by tomorrow's weigh-in. now it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

watch - when I break through this fucker, I'll drop to like 285 in a week.

I will add my endorsement to Sarkpeople. One of the reasons I have not been here or the other place much is that I have had a super hectic scheduale, between Fire Fighting class and getting the Sailing School open, that after doing my stuff on spark it's bedtime.

My page is here. Should we start a Mag Sparkteam? Soy, I know, but I am secure in my masculinity.
