I'm in on this!

I started up Body For Life again on Monday - the last time I did it I went from 21% to 18% body fat in 1.5 months. It was unbelievable. So, that's the route I'm taking. If anyone wants to try out the program I highly recommend it. I wouldn't stay on it for an extended period (<3 months) but it definitely is the way to go if you want to lose fat. I modify the workouts a bit with stuff that seems a little more useful to me, but the big keys are the diet and the morning workouts.

Down to 200 as of this morning!!!! That's a little over 3 pounds so far.

My kids are sick, so I'm waiting for the other shoe to fall and catch their cold.
Grrrrrr.

Why not? Doesn't that kind of go counter to the whole premise of "Body for Life?"

Since the spreadsheet only tracks weight, and I'm in it for inches and BF%, here's my stats as of 3/11/07 so I can track:

5'9"
158 lbs
Waist 32"
Hips 40"
Thigh 19.75"
Bicep 11.5"
BF% to be tested today! (I'm guessing ~22%) - goal 18%

Edit for AD - I can't stand all the protein supplements for Body For Life. I've figured out how to cut it down to one per day, but I still don't like it. In terms of sustaining after the initial 12 weeks, I've used the diet without supplements very successfully to maintain weight, but it's really hard for me to cut additional fat without doing the whole protein shake thing. I guess that's what I meant - the workouts and diet are very doable for the long haul, just not all the Mypolex crap. Plus, I was starting to get a little monstrous after about 20 weeks on the program with all the supplementation.

down a few lbs since Monday, ran about two miles outside today, the last hill made me completely blow up and felt great at the same time.

The dieting portion is going much easier than I expected. I am not really dieting per say, just cutting out snacking and controlling my portions to that of a normal human being.

I've been pretty good. Had a planned binge meal of sushi on Tuesday, just to keep my sanity.. but I've otherwise been right around 1000 calories every day since saturday. Today was 1100, yesterday 860. Resumed outdoor running yesterday - and did much better than I thought I would - 3 miles at an 11:27 pace. Today I did my first trail run of the season. Hills are fun.

According to fitday, my caloric deficit over the last two days is 9027 - meaning I've burned 9027 more calories than I've eaten. In theory, that equates to over 2.5 lbs of weight loss - in two days..

Hell, in theory, I'll be under 200 by july if i keep this up. (so much for theory)

In practice, I'm gonna smoke you all. (:

Holy crap steve, that is NOT a lot of calories...just make sure that you aren't starving yourself, cause you'll end up binging if you do.

I cut out some of may calories, but I'm still around 1300-1450 per day..combine that with exercise and losing weight is easy.

keep it simple - focus on the caloric deficit. they say that for every 3500 calories you burn but don't eat, you lose 1 lb. so keep track of calories consumed and burned.. and if you're deficit is 500 calories a day, you'll lose 1 lb a week that she can't claim to be water weight. 1000 calories a day=2 lbs a week, etc.

196.4 as of yesterday!!!! I rode 25 miles on Tuesday, ran 6 on Wednesday, and biked a little over 20 yesterday. My plan is to run again today - 5 miles, then get two long days in the saddle over the weekend. I am aiming for over 100 miles total this week.

the way i see it, you're getting a late start, which is a disadvantage to you. so if you want, go for it.

PM me your email address (gmail if you've got it) and i'll add you to as a collaborator to the spreadsheet, then you can add yourself and your weight..

That's not a whole lot of calories. How do you do it? I'm at around 1600 a day lately and I've been able to lose 5lbs so far.

I started a fitday account awhile ago but I never really used it. I didn't like the interface and wasn't really serious about it at the time. I recently found another site that keeps track of everything for you and has a lot of information. www.sparkpeople.com for those that are interested. I've found it easy to use and very helpful.

Click on days for the last week and you'll see everything I ate.

also, my blog has all sorts of honest thoughts about the painful pangs I went through when I started this thing - now, 3 weeks into it, those pangs aren't so bad anymore.

so how unfat is everyone getting??

I've lost about 3.5% of my bodyweight since the 12th - AND - I had already lost all the "water weight" in the prior two weeks (I started right after the beginning of lent).

I weighed 318.2 yesterday - started at 330 (beginning of lent, i estimate i was 340.) I ran 3 miles in 32 minutes and had my heart rate above 90% of max for 15 minutes of the run - 80-90% the rest of the time. That was before breakfast. I ate just 688 calories all day yesterday - 42% protein, 34% carbs, 24% fat. had 34 grams of fiber.

If I keep this up, I'll come in around 225 by mid-july.. but I'd be thrilled with 250.

Tonight I'm leaving on a roadtrip to the summit with spdfrk.. who is also in the challenge. I've been thinking about how to stay under 1000 calories/day during the trip, especially since we won't be burning too many calories in the car all day. Any thoughts?

I've lost 10 lbs. I am not constricting calories as much as you are, just eating smaller portions and drinking water. I would hate to lose much muscle mass. So I am somewher between 1200- 1800 calories a day. I did a 3 mile treadmil run yesterday in 30 minutes, but i was pretty spent by that time, i wasn't wearing a hrm, but the last mile i was definately over 90%. I am going to try and get 10mi. on the MTB this afternoon.

I pretty much decided that when I am in Utah, I am not going to be overly calorie concious, but I am not going to gorge myself with food either.

I just don't see how this kind of eating pattern is sustainable--unless you're anorexic. You gotta eat, dude!

i've been doing it ok. been feeling full, too. now that i've been doing it for a couple weeks, my appetite has adjusted. I also found a lot of large-volume low calorie foods.

the kind of thing that is not sustainable is running 3 miles before breakfast and then only eating 688 calories all day, 6 days a week. so i'm only going to do cardio maybe 2 or 3 days a week, and rockclimb once with mtn man..

that's the plan, anyway.
