They don't pay Sherriffs to standout in the cold and check passes. They're all down at Silver Fork anyhow. The part about the scanner is correct and it's a theft of services misdomeaner charge with a lifetime ban for you and the persons whos pass your scamming on. Good riddance IMO. If your to fuckin cheap to buy a ticket or pass. There is this new thing called BC skiing. It's free, just don't let Mother Nature kick your ass.
I wouldn't be to terribly surprised if Alta was using gates and a similiar ticket system next season.
My favorite scammer story the bust this dude and he has a camera so he takes photos of the lift manager and head liftie photoshops their faces onto some gay porn and posts ~ a hundred stickers all over the village and Moonbeam.
The "Corp" not takin good care of its employees say it aint so. If that's really true and this makes you feel better about scamming, scam on cheap mother fucker.

Lotsa years ago I got about 50 days on a pass that a guy left laying on a coffee table when he left town. Everything was great until closing day and I had to boogie out the back door of the gondi building. I found out later that the liftie was about to set a record for the most busts in a season. Even back then (1988) they were getting a $50 bonus for each pass they got and the theft of services charge would've sucked. In hindsight I say don't do it but I try not to be a hypocrite.

Heh, see you in about 2 weeks, this season has gone off the rails with my ankle but it's feeling better, we'll see how it skis.

I know I can drink whether or not my ankle works.

Too fucking cheap? The prices are insane these days for ski bums. Solitude was much better before those turnstiles....

There are undercover cops at The Canyons asking people if they want to puff down. Their passes don't have pics on them, they are transferable between the different guys, so if you look reaaallllll close you might figure it out. I wonder if they wear a hat like skifishbum's dog and say 'brahhhhhh' a lot to fit in?

One of the best stories I've heard was at bridger, a friend used a womans pass for awhile before getting busted. I never saw him up there but there's a funny pic of him hiking the Ridge with a wig, lipstick, and his jacket unzipped.....

Be careful. I've seen a few people get pulled out of line in Mammoth over the last couple of years. For the most part they don't check very carefully, my picture is terrible and very vague, but you don't want to get busted. I used to get my buddies asking me to borrow my pass whenever I didn't go up. I never let them because I don't want to get kicked out of the pass program at Mammoth. I had a buddy who got caught using another friend's pass, I think it ended up being a 500$ for each guy, and the guy who owned the pass could never buy one again. I love skiing Mammoth and getting a cheap season pass, so I'm not going to risk that, as much as I would love to hook my buddies up. I have a friend who got busted about 4-5 years ago at squaw with a forged season pass. They were going to throw the book at him, but then didn't get him that bad, although I don't remember what the exact penalty was. I think one of the people he got busted with had some connections. I think they usually don't throw the book at you to the extent that they could, but you never know. I could care less about most big resorts, squaw treated me like shit when I worked there. I was an instructor, but if I was a liftie I wouldn't have busted anybody because I had no loyalty to the resort. I think most lifties feel that way, but you don't want to run into the one who doesn't. What I would fear most would not be the fine, but the record, and possibly being permanently banned from the mountain.

    .
That is absolutely inexcusable, unless law enforcement in that area has an incredible surplus of money and time, which I highly doubt.

you may be ok with the fine and some court time but ask your buddy if he minds not being able to purchase a bird season pass ever again?

i've found that those who are skiing on a bunk pass do some of the least intelligent things. most passes don't get checked until you act like a jackass. remember the old adage, "only break one law at a time".
