Cropping is for gapers who don't know how to frame a shot and there's no reason to run B&W when you have sickter alpenglow.

Still like the original the best. IMO, the mountains being out of focus on the crop takes away from the pic.

it needs more contrast. Force some more contrast out of that thing, and then I'll respond.

The blown highlights in the upper-right are far less harsh in b&w.
The detail in the foreground is pretty cool.
The out-of-focus b/g isn't as bothersome when its further away.

the dankness is always the best crop....the alpenglow is the shit, but the mountains being out of focus kinda kills it for me

Maybe if you just croped it, it would look fine, but the enlargement adds to the distortion, especially of the mountains. I would go with the original.

I think a crop of him with an even bigger pack would be cool.

Dude, you have milked the fuck out of that picture so much, that the only crop I want to see is the one that removes it entirely. I mean, for fucks sake, take at least one other picture that doesn't suck (because the picture in question does not suck), and ask about that one.

I think I'd go for something in between one and two. The only problem with one for me is the skier is too centered. I'd try to move him a little left in the frame, but not cropped as much as two. Christ, check out the skier's profile in number two, he looks like sasquatch!

Got any more of the trailing cold smoke? I'd crop it sort of like this. Add even more left side if you have it to shift the skier further right. I'd like to see that framing in color and B&W.

#1 is definitely the best. And thanks for showing everyone where I'll be skiing on Saturday (probably minus the huge pack, though)

you know the best thing about that day, we were gonna skin but the patrol director comes out to yell at us for skiing up the no skin zone (even when closed as it was that day) and then goes: "oh its you, we're gonna turn on the lift wanna do some runs" yup our own private alpenglow
