Why did I have to pick an avy course during the first snow in weeks??? Can't go this Sunday either. I'm a sad guy...well, I need the avy training.

Just got back from Hatchers. The avy seminar was really great. I definitely want to continue the training. If you get a chance to train with Snow Dynamics I would definitely recommend them.

Simple really. An avy happens. Your dog and a friend get buried. You lock in with a beacon, probe, and dig. Oh great you rescued your dog, in the meantime your buddy dies.

Is that a good enough reason?

Nice pic. There were a ton of people at Hatchers and it snowed most of the day.

It was interesting because the instructor had a photo of the recent avy at Turnagain that was set off by one of the guys here...was it Col_surfer's group? Anyway, the instructor was talking about how there are 2 layers of hoarfrost at Turnagain which he said was very unusual for there and due to the cold/clear weather. Sounds like he is out there a lot. His name is Sean Dewalt.

Also, the kids that were in the Hatchers avy recently were there. Still didn't have transceivers but at least they attended the class. Got to talk to them...good kids that got lucky.

REAL simple JONG. ever seen a patrol dog with a beacon on? there IS a reason for that. If you are brining your dog in the BC, they should be afforded the same protection. They are most likely going to start an avi over a human. At least in ak...People back home that i know who's dogs were buried wished they had the foresight to put a beacon on their dogs, then they may still be alive.

No, but I spend 99% of my time in the bc.

It's simple really. If your dog is not well trained (e.g. does not follow in your skin track, chases others, goes "exploring" on it's own, etc.) it should not be in the bc. Just as you said, they are most likely to start an avi over a human, so why take them into that situation. Or at least do not take them in any location that is avy prone, unless they are not exceptionally well behaved.

I would never ski bc with someone who puts a beacon on their dog. Period.

If I died because someone thought their dog "should be afforded the same protection" and pulled the dog out while I suffocated I would wait by the gates of hell and throat punch them once they showed up.

    Just saying.

Sorry, tired, pretty much in the bag and didn't realize it was a non jong, jong. I will recind my jonging.

I agree with you on most parts. I am NOT a fan of taking a dog in the BC, even if they are well behaved and trained, they are still dogs--animals with their own agenda.

and i like the gates of hell scenario. funny in a black, sorded kinda way--is it ok to do that to HS?

there is a reason i don't take my dog into the bc, he is just that, a dog. I don't want to have to worry about another life in case all hell breaks loose
