Looks like they're all solved, but I have a few more:

1a. A disposition towards inquiry deprived the feline of its vital state.

1b. Elementary sartorial techniques initially applied obviate the need for repetitive similar actions to the square of three.

1c. There is illumination at the termination of the subterranean excavation.

1d. Exigency is the matriarch of ingenious contrivance.

I'd suggest "Necessity is the mother of invention." But Viva's is funnier.

    KILLJOY ALERT KILLJOY ALERT !!!!

"Onerous consistency" and "vapor" are really poor substitutes for the intended original phrasings. They're not imaginative, but rather are inaccurate or misleading. As a silly internet game, it's all good of course; the aphorisms are still readily decipherable--but I think as an exercise in English, the teacher would (and should) want to do better. I mean, don't just pull crap off the internet without vetting it, teach.

SOLUTION: Your daughter should totally negotiate for extra credit in return for providing a selection of some reasonably accurate--while still amusingly obscure--cognates. PARTY TIME, OH YEAH!!!

I just noticed I didn't even spell the word daughter's correctly in the thread title. I hate it when I do dumb stuff like that.

Uh huh, I see, you got nuthin'. Besides, the homework was turned in before I put up the thread.

And, no, I'm not fucking Tom Sawyer. I married his sister.
