    Future River Trips......

So, to keep this forum kinda going, heres something to ponder. What river trips do you guys have planned? Anything big coming up? As for me, I leave for the San Juan on Saturday morning. Putting in a Medicine Hat and seeing how it goes. As for this summer...... when and where?

Owyhee/Bruneau this spring. South Fork Salmon mid June. Probably a booze cruise down the lower Salmon or Hells Canyon in August. Stupid honeymoon getting in the way of any week or longer trips...

You are coming from Wyoming to run the San Juan?!! I would rethink this trip. You might as well just paddle across a beutiful lake. Westy or the Delores are much higher quality runs in the same area. Let me know if you need any legitament beta on boating in the SW. There is LOTS of high quality boating for all abilities.

You'd be hard pressed to find a lake that's that consistantly beautiful. Westwater is cold as hell right now and the Dolores won't run this year. The San Juan's probably the best choice in the area right now.

I've got a Salt trip coming up this weekend...right now the flows are shit but looks like it's supposed to get up into the mid 70s this weekend, so we've got our fingers crossed. If it doesn't go, we'll probably just go make laps on Fossil Creek and do a bunch of hiking.

You mean Mexican Hat? San Juan is a kick ass trip. You've got amazing scenery and your in that canyon for days. Dolores hardly ever runs and Westy is sweet but short. The camping, hiking and historical sites on the San Juan are sweet too. It's pretty sick floating through the Goosenecks! Only con to this trip is avoiding the Lake Powell-backed up-sediment islands which shift daily. Your constantly rowing back and forth across the river to avoid hang ups. And you've always got the possibility of wind...as with every river. Other than that it's a high quality Western river experience.

Still waiting to hear back on the Salmon's. We just got our notice...or denial for a Yampa/Green permit...again. However, I do have a Ruby/Westwater trip in about a week and Deso Canyon permit for July.

Keep waiting. The USFS outsourced the lottery to a bunch of ass clowns. Notices are supposed to be sent out by 2/14 but these turds are now saying it will be late March at the earliest.

you need a boating buddy hehehehe. and yes i meant mexican hat, and the problem is we are going *cough* with the school. we had a permit to do the deschutes, but it looked so goddamn cold up there next week we didn't want to chance it with twelve noobies. i suggested westwater, or labyrinth, or cat, or anything else, but my prof didn't want to try anything that hard. (however i didn't think the cat was THAT bad last fall, oh well his ass, not mine.) anyway, i'm at work for 3 more hours, then im off to pack. i've heard quite a bit about dodging the sand bars, any other beta on the good ol' sj?

For sure. I did it my first time last year and it is my favorite trip. Maybe we can get some raft support and live the high life too.

Freak-yeah, I'll let you know when we are planning on doing stuff.

We should all talk about SF Salmon. Depending on flow, class IV-V with great camping and it's logistically pretty easy.

Chatooga, Nantahala, and the French Broad are all about 2 hours from my house. That is where I will do most of my paddleing this summer. I may take a trip to the Ocoee but don't know yet.

The Owyhee is definitely a fun trip. We ran it four years ago and had a great time. It was 6,000+ when we put on and 3,000 when we took off. Our group was the only one on the river, the scenery was great, and the hot springs were delightful!

Here's a couple from our trip down the Salt last week. Low flows, but still a hell of a good time.

    Need a camp bitch?

We have a permit for the gates of Lodore late summer (low water). maybe also do a weekend or 2 on the arkansas and a float down the green through cayonlands.

I'm not much of a boater, but I am a good passenger.

Well, the future became the present which became the past. Re-entry is a bitch.

Best vacation I have ever had.

A pic of our run in Lava. Took on the right side in a 14' Maravia. I'm right front aka The Ejection Seat. My wife is left middle, really she is.

In the immortal words of Sage C. (I think) We took a gnarly line and got spanked.
